Carlton vs. Richmond

preview

Carlton and Richmond resume their Thursday night hostilities in Round 1 of the 2022 AFL season when they go head to head at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Blues will unveil new players, positional changes and a new game plan concocted under the eye of new coach Michael Voss.

The signs for Carlton have been positive in the pre-season with wins against St Kilda and reigning premier Melbourne, but the Richmond hoodoo looms large.

Damien Hardwick has not lost to any Carlton squad since that famous 2013 elimination final, which the Blues won.

Since then, it has been 11 consecutive victories and Dustin Martin has been pivotal figure in all of those wins.

The Tigers have some injury concerns with Kane Lambert, Nick Vlastuin and Kamdyn McIntosh all missing the game,

Injury clouds hang over the fitness of Dylan Grimes, Jack Graham and Dion Prestia despite all three being named in the team.

Sam Walsh will also miss out on the clash, but the Blues seem to have covered him omission reasonably well with Matt Kennedy, Adam Cerra and George Hewett showing plenty.

Expect this be a close game, but the Tigers should prevail given how well they matched up on the Blues in recent times.

Suggested Bets: Richmond head to head at $1.52

Carlton vs. richmond

total points over 164.5

The last time these teams met was Round of 2021.

The score went well over the current 164.5 points set and it will be interesting to see how both teams approach this.

Richmond looks weakened in their back six with Nick Vlastuin missing the game and the retirement of David Astbury.

The Blues looked dangerous up front, but the Tigers also have some very intelligent forwards in Jack Riewoldt, Tom Lynch and Jason Castagna.

Siding with the overs.

Suggested Bets: Total points scored over 164.5 at $1.85
