central coast mariners vs. melbourne victory

march 9th 5:05pm

With news the Melbourne Derby has been called off, Melbourne Victory will be throwing all their eggs into one basket when it takes on Central Coast in Central Coast on Wednesday night.

Tony Popovic would have been keen to rest some players ahead of a huge this weekend, but with Asian Champions League commitments, the Victory have had to settle for the one game this week.

It might work at as a blessing in disguise for Popovic, who, in all probability, will be keep a very similar starting XI to the squad that crushed Macarthur 3-1 last Saturday.

The Mariners will still be feeling the heartache of their late loss to Victory at AAMI Park just a few week ago, the memories of that late February night and will be spurring them on.

But with Nicholas D’Agostino in some serious goal-scoring form and this Victory defence looking at another championship tilt, we have to side with the visitors.

Prediction: Central Coast 1 Melbourne Victory 2

Suggested Bet: Melbourne Victory head to head at $2.35

melbourne city vs. macarthur fc.

march 9th 7:05pm

Melbourne City’s sojourn towards the top of the table will continue on its merry way when it prepares to face Macarthur FC on Wednesday night.

City will host the Bulls who remain in Melbourne after being by Victory 3-1 last weekend.

After a very sharp start to the season, the Bulls have solidified their hopes a genuine finals team and they still do have a handful of games against teams above them on the the table.

Coach Ante Milicic has proven a revelation to this Bulls team and they will surely take it right up to Patrick Kisnorbo’s men.

The class and talent of City is what will likely get them over the line here.

Matthew Leckie and Jamie Maclaren are beginning for forge a formidable partnership up front and it could very well be the duo that leads City to back-to-back titles.

Prediction: Melbourne City 2 Macarthur FC 1

Suggested Bets:
M. Leckie anytime goalscorer at $2.35
Melbourne City head to head at $1.45

wellington phoenix vs. newcastle jets

march 9th 7:45pm

The final match of our Wednesday-night trio commences when Wellington Phoenix battle the Newcastle Jets at Central Coast Stadium.

For all the hardship of having to camp outside of New Zealand for a second season in a row, the Phoenix have shown great form this season and will definitely be sitting inside the top six after they make up their games in hand.

Wellington has gone undefeated in its last six games, which has helped set it up for a finals berth.

Newcastle, meanwhile, has fluctuated in its form this season and it has been good enough for eighth on the table, which has actually been an improvement on what it dished up last season.

Arthur Pappas has implemented his strong offensive philosophy onto the Jets and it has paid dividends from a goal perspective.

Jets striker Beka Mikeltadze has been brilliant this season with eight goals as he tries to chase down Jamie Maclaren for the golden boot award.

He will be a danger in the front third and he is someone the Phoenix will need to pay particular attention to.

This is a tough game to split, so we will side with the draw.

Prediction: Wellington Phoenix 2 Newcastle Jets 2

Suggested bets: Draw at $3.50
