Seven races greet us for night racing at Pakenham as the BetDeluxe team finds the best bets and selections.
pakenham race 1
#8 our nicconi
Our Nicconi has been given plenty of time by Jerome Hunter to get herself right.
She has had a heap of jump outs and is now ready to come to the races.
Her most recent jump out was over 1000 metres at Mornington and she moved along nicely.
She was to settle behind runners and then eased out three and four wide to make a surge around the field.
Her jockey eased off the gas in the last 150 metres and she seems to have enough talent to measure up this maiden.
Perfect barrier and has a good fitness base off the jump outs.
Suggested Bet: Our Nicconi win at $4.60
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 8
pakenham race 2
#13 waylaid
Waylaid had no luck at his resuming run from a spell at Moe over 1200 metres.
The Shea Eden-trained galloper was his own worst enemy after squibbing, jibbing and missing the start of the race by about three lengths.
He tacked on and made good ground late in the run after being desperately unlucky for the majority of the straight.
He ran a strong last 400 meters in that event to show he has returned in good order.
The wider barrier here should see him in clear air and he will be in the barriers for a little less longer than he was at Moe.
That should hopefully lead to him concentrating and jumping on terms this time.
Suggested Bet: Waylaid each-way at $5 the win and $1.80 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 9, 12, 13
pakenham race 5
#3 night 'n' vegas
Coming back to the 1400 metres looks as though it is going to suit Night ‘N’ Vegas perfectly here.
She now has a very strong fitness platorm to use when leading her races and the speed map looks favourable for her here.
There does not look to be too much pressure for the lead and she should be able to dictate out in front.
Hoping Fred Kersley is smart enough to set a strong tempo out in the lead in order to use the strong fitness base this horse has to full effect.
Home track is a big tick and she we expect her to well tried in the betting.
Suggested Bet: Night ‘N’ Vegas win at $3.4
pakenham race 7
#11 next step berrima
Something clearly went amiss with Next Step Berrima at his most recent race start and we are prepared to forgive him here.
After starting a $3 favourite in BM-58 grade at Werribee, he failed to finish his race off and tailed out to finish seventh of nine runners.
The blinkers come off for this run in order to settle him down and not use too much energy or over-race.
Going up in grade to BM-64 level means he gets a little bit of weight relief and the stable has booked a senior jockey in Arron Lynch to pilot him around the course.
Inside to outside barrier might just see him carry more momentum into the straight then being bailed away on the inside of runners as he was last start.
Suggested Bet: Next Step Berrima each-way at $8 the win and $2.7 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 11
