With wet weather and a heavy track forecast for Randwick on Saturday, the BetDeluxe team is on the hunt for fit horses who love getting their hoof into the ground.
The best of the day comes up in race three with the running of the Sweet Embrace Stakes.
randwick race 1
#8 devils triangle
Devils Training hits Sydney at the perfect time in her career.
She has been meandering away in the country-racing scene and winning very well with short starting prices, indicating that she is better than country grade.
The 1200 metres back to 1000 metres is ideal, given the amount of speed and early pressure in this race.
Should be able to deal with the heavy track and get to the best part of the Randwick straight.
Suggested Bet: Devils Training each-way at $7 the win and $2.5 the place.
Confidence Rating: 5.5/10
randwick race 2
#4 key largo
Has plugged away in city grade at the last few starts and has a great base of residual fitness.
The big tick with her here is James McDonald being booked to ride.
His ability and strength can improve a horse anywhere between two to four lengths.
She will be able to deal with the heavy track and has a solid turn of foot that she can use to full effect here.
Expecting her to start a heavily-backed favourite with McDonald giving the punters plenty of confidence.
Suggested Bet: Key Largo win at $3.90
Confidence Rating: 8/10
randwick race 3
#3 lady laguna
Two-year-old fillies do not come as professional as Lady Laguna.
She puts herself on the speed and toughs it out better than any juvenile on the racing scene.
Her big advantage over the favourite Coolangatta is her proven form on wet tracks.
She gets the winkers put on for the first time and her jump out with Hugh Bowman was absolutely super.
Annabel Neasham’s stable is airborne at the moment and that form should be translated to this filly.
Suggested Bet: Lady Laguna win at $3.9
Confidence Rating: 7/10
randwick race 4
#7 rise of the masses
Rise Of The Masses looks a very progressive type and can easily make Saturday city grade after what we saw last start.
Love the way he toughed it out when almost leading all the way at Randwick in open company, but get the feeling he has plenty up his sleeve.
The big thing with this colt is getting up distance an extra 100 metres.
These Gai Waterhouse runners get stronger and harder to get past when they go up in distance.
Tim Clark should control the lead and boot clear in the wet going.
Suggested Bet: Rise Of The Masses each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.20 the place.
Confidence Rating: 7.5/10
randwick race 5
#2 ellsberg
A Gerald Ryan horse running fresh always stand out on the form guide.
He trialled very sharply over 1050 metres at Randwick on February 17 and looks to be in fine fettle.
With his last run being on December 11, he might lack a little bit of race fitness, but he will the freshness in his legs to sprint sharply, which is usually what we see from these Ryan horses after a little break.
His two starts on heavy tracks have both been fantastic, so we can back him with confidence knowing he can handle the going.
Suggested Bet: Ellsberg win at $4.4
Confidence Rating: 8/10
randwick race 6
#8 icebath
The equation is simple.
Icebath is the best horse in the race and she is the best wet tracker in the race.
Her first-up effort hitting the line when getting back in the rear half of the field was superb and her late closing sectionals were very strong.
James McDonald has been booked and that signals massive intent from the stable.
She is a genuine Group 1 horse who is expected to win this race on her way to bigger things this autumn.
Suggested Bet: Icebath win at $2.45
Confidence Rating: 9/10
randwick race 7
#8 verry elleegant
Verry Elleegant returned nicely in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes without really being there to win.
She poked away through the inside in the wrong part of the track and was making up massive amounts of ground after the finish post.
No doubt she has anywhere between eight to 10 lengths worth of improvement from now and until she hits her peak fitness.
Get the feeling Chris Waller will have her screwed down enough to defend her Chipping Norton crown.
She loves the wet tracks and will just need clear air up the middle to reel in Think It Over.
Suggested Bet: Verry Elleegant win at $3
Confidence Rating: 8.5/10
randwick race 8
#5 hinged
Shock horror… Chris Waller has a stranglehold on yet another Group 1.
But it is not the obvious in Espiona and Fangirl we are going with.
The run of Hinged when resuming was nice as she went through the line with good strength to highlight that she has returned well since being acquired by Waller last spring.
What stands out for her here is the inside barrier allowing her to settle handy to the speed and the ability to handle wet going.
She is massive odds and did start favourte in the Thousand Guineas.
She can knock off her two more fancied stablemates.
Suggested Bet: Hinged each-way at $26 the win and $6.5 the place.
Confidence Rating: 5/10
randwick race 9
#8 mr gee
This a tough but Mr Gee stands out as an each-way proposition.
Wet track is a tick and so is his winning form.
He strode through the line nicely and won by a length when carrying 61kgs last start and it might have been a surprise win given his massive drift in the market.
Third up is a positive and the 2kgs claim is going to help him immensely in the heavy going.
Young jockey Reece Jones has proven himself as a city jockey in the last few months.
Suggested Bet: Mr Gee each-way at $8.5 the win and $2.90 the place.
Confidence Rating: 5.5/10
randwick race 10
#1 inanup
Having a very small each-way shekel on Inanup at massive odds.
He drops down in grade from Group 3 level and will appreciate the wet track.
His form on heavy going reads three wins and two placing from seven starts.
He will be hitting the top of his game at his third-up run and, even though he is getting long in the tooth, his best form can win this.
Suggested Bet: Inanup each-way at $26 the win and $6.5 the place.
Confidence Rating: 4/10
