Sandown Tips & Previews, Wednesday 23rd February

Wednesday twilight racing at Sandown goes ahead as the BetDeluxe team cruises its way through the eight-race program in search of the best bets and selections.

Twilight racing is back at Sandown Hillside for another week and what a card we have on our hands.

Eight races across the program and the BetDeluxe crew is ready to fire with the best bets on a juicy program.

Sandown race 3

#9 spirit of gold

After a dour effort at Moonee Valley last start, Spirit Of Gold will look to rebound with a win coming down in grade.

She raced in the Listed $200,000 Torney Cup and was very flat-footed to the line in a slowly run race.

Racing on the quick back-up she spark into her action and she has clearly pulled up super from the run given she races only five days later.

The fitness of this mare will be peaking into this and she only goes up 2kgs from her last start effort in much harder company.

Jamie Kah booked is a massive tick.

Suggested Bet: Spirit Of Gold win at $3.50

sandown race 4

#9 Snakey Mag

She took her time to get to the racecourse, but Snakey Mag could have not debuted in more impressive fashion.

The five-year-old mare went to the line like a rocket at her first start during her Stony Creek maiden race and won easily.

Really liked the way she settled in the run and carried her head in a professional manner throughout the race.

She let down with a lovely sprint and won in sharp time with good sectionals.

She can definitely elevate to another level coming to town and will be in the finish if she shows any spike on what she did on debut.

Suggested Bet: Snakey Mag win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 5 & 9

sandown race 5

#5 defrosted

There is some poxy city-form in this race, so that means we will side with Defrosted.

The three-year-old filly from the Grahame Begg team broke through for her maiden victory at Kilmore over 1100 metres.

She took forever to wind up, but once she hit tip gear, she powered to the line with a nice sprint.

She has since had a freshen up and comes to a track with a long straight that will allow her to balance up and hit the line strongly.

The race-rated above average based on the sectional data from the Kilmore meeting, which is a good sign going up in grade.

There seems to be a fair bit of early speed in this race and the run she gets in this race should see her have last crack at the leaders and on pacers.

Suggested Bet: Defrosted each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.45 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 3, 4, 5, 8

sandown race 6

#4 what a smasher

Shocked to see What A Smasher in the each-way price range based off what she did last start.

She ran in the Bellmaine Stakes and, despite being a rank outsider, was only beaten by 4.4 lengths behind the likes of genuine Group 1 guns in Probabeel and Flying Mascot.

This a massive drop in grade from that race and coming back to what seems to be a fast-run 1000-metre event looks ideal.

Matthew Cartwright can watch it all unfold in front, sit off the early speed and then sprint sharply late in the race to finish over the top.

The little weight claim will also help our cause.

Suggested Bet: What A Smasher each-way at $5 the win and $1.85 the place.
