Horse Racing Tips

Randwick Tips & Previews, Saturday 12th February

A host of star horses return for the running of the Apollo Stakes at Randwick as our team finds all the best bets on a huge 10-race card.

A tricky card rears its head at Randwick with the feature event being the Apollo Stakes.

With the chance of rain around on Saturday, it might very well pay to be with horses who can handle the sting out of the ground.

The best of the day comes up in race five on the program.

Randwick race 1

#2 metallicity

Metallicity has shown above average ability at the trials and could very well be a Golden Slipper contender from what we have seen.

He has won all three of his trials to date and should make a winning start to his career.

Really taken by the speed and action this horse has.

The two-year-old colt is beautifully bred by Zoustar and trained by the right trainers for a juvenile horse in the form of Peter and Paul Snowden.

Suggested Bet: Metallicity win at $1.95

randwick race 2

#4 racketeering

This highway races are toughen tip than a hat super glued onto someone’s head.

Landed on Racketeering who is third-up and should now be hitting full fitness.

Few queries on his credentials over 1800 metres having never run over the distance before, but he has a good turn of acceleration that can be put to good use in this field.

Wide barrier unlikely to be an issue with the wet track likely to favour horses drawn the outside.

Suggested Bet: Racketeering win at $5

randwick race 3

#1 fun fact

If there is a horse in Australia that has been put to the sword more than Fun Fact, then come and tell us.

He has been nominated and entered for races with an abundance of early speed on far too many occasions.

It means he is unable to get his favoured front-running role and when he does, he has spent too many petrol tickets to get there.

This looks a race he can control proceedings out in front with the three-kilo claimer.

Suggested Bet: Fun Fact each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place.

randwick race 4

#2 capital reign

He is quick out of the gates and handles wet tracks.

That is exactly what we are looking for in this sprint race over 1000 metres.

Tyler Schiller gets an important claiming allowance of two kilos for this three-year-old gelding as well.

Should bound to the front and be hard to catch.

Suggested Bet: Capital Reign win at $2.10

randwick race 5

#2 yiyi

Third-up, mile, James McDonald, Chris Waller.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

Yiyi is ready to a run peak race this campaign after two very solid efforts to begin this new preparation.

He was chased down by stablemate Wairere Falls last start, but was probably just a run short of really hitting top fitness.

Expect a big elevation.

Suggested Bet: Yiyi win at $2.15

randwick race 6

#5 embracer

Gets a nice weight swing on Lost and Running.

He is yet to run outside the placings when resuming with four first-up runs registering two wins and two places.

Won his 900-metre Rosehill trial in the lead up to this race and looks to be going really well.

He will race on the speed and look the winner at some point.

Nice each-way play at the double-figure price.

Suggested Bet: Embracer each-way at $10 the win and $3.2 the place.

randwick race 7

#8 Espiona

Espiona is the next star of Australian racing.

The numbers and figures she produced in her first two career runs were outstanding.

It is scary to think she will only get better as she races.

This race might not see her at her peak level and the wide barrier might be a bit awkward.

But she has an electric turn of foot that cannot be ignored here.

Odds-on favourite for a reason.

It would be a shock if she is beaten.

Suggested Bet: Espiona win at $1.30
Boxed Trifecta – 3, 5, 8

randwick race 8

#10 colette

The more it rains and the wetter the track is, the more Colette’s chance of winning this race increase.

She just simply loves getting her hoof into the ground when it is wet.

The star five-year-old mare gets the services of Tim Clark and finds herself draw in a perfect barrier.

Her trial at Randwick over 900 metres was a quiet one, but we think James Cummings is saving her energy for a massive first-up effort.

Suggested Bet: Colette each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place

randwick race 9

#14 promise of success

Promise of Success get into this race on the minimum weight with 53kgs.

Her two trials leading into this resuming run have been pass marks and should have her up to the mark in order to run near her best.

Kerrin McEvoy rode her in her most recent trial and has stuck with the in-form mare.

She will handle the wet going with no qualms and is the one to beat.

Suggested Bet: Promise of Success win at $4.6

randwick race 10

#13 papal warrior

Having a speculative each-way bet on Papal Warrior in the last.

His run last start was solid enough considering he had to do some work from an outside barrier to get himself on the speed.

This race looks to shape up much better for him.

Better barrier and down in the weights, combined with getting onto a soft track is exactly what he needs.

Suggested Bet: Papal Warrior each-way at $14 the win and $4.2 the place.
