Matteo Berrettini vs. Rafael Nadal

Scheduled for 2:35pm

Spanish legend and 20-time grandslam winner Rafael Nadal comes up against Italian hope Matteo Berrettini in the first semi-final on Rod Laver Arena for the 2022 Australian Open.

Both players had to do it the hard way in their quarterfinal victories needing five sets to progress.

Nadal looked set for a cruisy passage in his match against Denis Shapovalov after going two sets to love up, but was made to fight tooth and nail for just over four hours.

Berrettini went through a near identical fate to his Spanish counterpart after relinquishing a two sets to love lead against French veteran Gael Monfils.

The 25-year-old Italian held firm in the fifth set to become the first ever Italian into the semifinal of the Australian Open.

Nadal and Berrettini have only ever played each other once.

It is the Spaniard who holds sway with a three-set victory at the US Open back 2019.

Berrettini has become a much improved player since then and Nadal did look very shaky against Shapovalov after complaining of cramps and stomach aches.

Add in the Italian’s ability to hit the ball hard, flat and with great depth, it means Nadal will have to generate more on his forehand but from deeper in the court.

If the Italian can keep his head in the game, then he looks great value at the head to head.

Suggested Bet: Matteo Berrettini head to head at $2.74

stefanos tsitsipas vs. daniil medvedev

scheduled for 7:30pm

You can be rest assured there will be some spice in this match when Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev exchange pleasantries in the Australian Open Semifinal.

These two young stars have had their verbal disputes over the times, but from a pure tennis perspective, Medvedev has defeated Tsitsipas on six of the eight times they have faced off against each other.

From a head to head viewpoint, it is clearly the 25-year-old Russian who has the advantage.

Tsitsipas, however, could not be coming into a fixture against his long-time rival in better form than he currently is.

The Greek star despatched Italian prospect Jannik Sinner in straight sets in what was a brilliant display of eloquence and power.

Meanwhile, Medvedev played out a huge five-set thriller against Felix Auger-Aliassime in which he saved a match point to progress through with a 6-7(4), 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Both men have shown great tenacity to fend off spirited opponents over the course of the tournament and will enter the contest brimming with confidence.

Tsitsipas possesses great groundstrokes on both his forehand and backhand, but Medvedev is equally as good with his advantage over Tsitsipas being his brilliant court coverage.

This could well go down to the wire, but the second seed might have just enough in the tank to come through in the end and make another hardcourt grand-slam final.

Suggested Bet: Daniil Medvedev 3-1 at $3.50
