Caulfield Tips & Previews, Wednesday 26th January

The best bets and tips from the Australia Day meeting at Caulfield as punters prepare for the Blue Diamond Previews and John Dillon Stakes.

The traditional Australia Day meeting at Caulfield goes ahead on Wednesday as the BetDeluxe racing crew finds all the best bets and tips.

The program is headlined by the Blue Diamond Previews and the John Dillon Stakes.

With the rail out six metres, we expect the track to favour those horses that race up on the speed, but there is a chance that horses can find themselves in the ‘golden lanes’ out wide in the chute sprint races.

Caulfield race 2

#5 jewellery

Jewellery comes out of what looks to be a fairly strong two-year-old race after running second behind a smart one called Philosopher on debut.

The Godolphin-owned James Cummings-trained two-year-old filly recorded some very nice closing sectionals after being snicked back to last in a small field.

A wide-ish barrier should suit her here with a speedy horse in Latizia drawn outside of her likely to give her the perfect cart into race with some cover.

Damian Lane should be able to swing her into those golden lanes up the middle of the Caulfield straight as she looks to unleash her sprint late in the race.

There looks to be an abundance of early speed in this race and that should play perfectly into the hands of Lane and his filly.

Suggested Bet: Jewellery win at $3.6

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 5

caulfield race 5

#10 unique artist

Unique Artist gets in beautifully at the weights in this race.

This four-year-old mare elevated to a new level at Flemington on New Year’s Day last start when she idled up into the race under a stranglehold and put her rivals away with contempt.

It was the sign of a horse who is going to make a nice rise through the grades this summer and she can easily make it two wins in a row with only 54kgs on her back and perfect barrier.

She is undefeated over 2000 metres and will enjoy the bone-dry Caulfield track.

Stable is flying at the moment and we expect her to start a very well-backed favourite in this event.

Making her the best of the day.

Suggested Bet: Unique Artist win at $3.10

caulfield race 6

#6 more than exceed

Lighthouse is the deserved favourite for the John Dillon Stakes, but she has come up very short odds.

With that being the case, More Than Exceed looks over the odds for a horse with a much better set of circumstances than he faced last start.

He has to face the task of stepping up in grade to stakes level, but that is offset by his tumble down in the weights to 54.5kgs compared to the 61kgs he had to carry last start.

The massive jockey change with Logan Mcneil hopping off for star hoop Brett Prebble is also an indicator this horse is ready to run the best of his campaign thus far.

Suggested Bet: More Than Exceed each-way at $21 the win and $4.4 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 4, 5, 6

caulfield race 7

#2 so risque

The Ben & J D Hayes stable has got this horse in a rich vein of winning form through his two runs back from a spell.

The four-year-old gelding has been impressive carrying 60kgs at both his resuming Bendigo win and his second-up Sandown win.

Josh Richards has retained his last-start winning ride and claims the 2kgs to get this horse into the race with 59.5kgs.

He is a clearly a galloper on the rise and will be hitting peak fitness now.

Doubt the barrier will prove any headaches for Richards as he is likely to push forward and race up on the lead speed or even hold the front should the early pace of the race allow him to.

Suggested Bet: So Risque win at $3.7
