Newcastle Tips & Previews, Monday 10th January

With racing taking a break in Victoria, the BetDeluxe racing gurus run their eyes over the seven-race card at Newcastle for the best bets.

Newcastle plays host to a seven-race card ahead of Monday racing.

Our racing experts have run their eyes over the form guide and found all the best bets and tips you need to be on come the first race of the day.

Newcastle race 1

#14 Tyquendo

Gets a golden opportunity to break his maiden status by racing the quick back-up here.

He was a well-backed favourite to take out a 1400-metre maiden at Taree last week, but failed to live up to the market expectations when running midfield.

Something clearly did not go right when he was asked to let down with his run after finding clear galloping room in the straight.

Racing only a week after that effort suggests he has shown something strong at trackwork and can definitely rebound after that effort.

Being drawn a little wider and being in clean air for the majority of the race might just see him improve and he returns to a track where he ran well at two starts ago.

Suggested Bet: Tyquendo win at $3.90

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 10, 14

Newcastle race 3

#2 Mirror One

He is the only horse in this race with a city run next to his name on the form guide.

Running seventh in the Canterbury maiden over 1100 metres is what he produced at his first-up run this preparation and it is superior to anything this field has produced.

The only danger might be the first starter of Kris Lees who has trialled up okay in the lead up to this race.

But our selection has the race fitness and experience on his side to quell the threat.

Best of the day at Newcastle.

Suggested Bet: Mirror One win at $2.2

Newcastle race 5

#9 Dodecanese

Paul Perry has a cheeky knack of winning races when dropping his horses down in distance.

That is the set up for Dodecanese today as he comes back to 1350 metres after running three races in a row at the mile.

Perry seems to have targeted this race given the lack of early speed on paper.

Expecting Brooke Stower to press the button when the barriers open and get the lead on this fit horse.

She needs to turn this into a war of attrition by going hard out in front and turning creating a stamina-sapping contest, which will perfectly suit the rock-hard fitness of her mount.

Suggested Bet: Dodecanese win at $4.8

Suggested Exotic: Boxed First Four – 3, 8, 9, 10, 13

newcastle race 7

#1 Mandalong roman

This is a big tumble down in grade for Mandalong Roman.

The four-year-old gelding has raced in BM-64 or BM-68 grade at his last four starts and has acquitted himself well in preparation for a race of this class despite not winning.

The three-kilo claim of Bailey Wheeler will only help this horse find an extra length or two towards the end of this race, which could pivotal in the final result.

Hoping Wheeler does not to do too much thinking from out wide on the course and keeps this galloper comfortable even if he is posted wide.

He has the class to beat this field and should run a nice race at each-way odds.

Suggested Bet: Mandalong Roman each-way at $9 the win and $2.90 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 9, 13
