Caulfield Tips & Previews, Saturday 8th January

It's off to 'The Heath' as Caulfield is in readiness for an eight-race card ahead of the best bets for Saturday racing in Melbourne.

The first meeting at Caulfield of 2022 comes at us this Saturday.

The BetDeluxe team of racing experts syphon their way through all the best bets ahead of the nine-race card at “The Heath.”

Caulfield race 1

#8 Jewellery

We might have a small field, but this looks a cracking two-year-old race with the value centring around the Godolphin filly Jewellery.

She is a beautifully bred two-year-old star sire Lonhro out of a Group 3 winning mare and has shown a level of talent well above maiden grade in her jump outs.

Love how she went about her business at Flemington in her 800-metre heats as she ambled around the track with ease.

She finished second in his first jump out when making very good late ground and then ended up winning her most recent jump out in a nice style.

She represents much better value than the current favourite and is worth a bet.

Suggested Bet: Jewellery win at $4.60

Caulfield race 5

#3 dirty deeds

The softer the track the better the outcome for Dirty Deeds.

With rain forecast around Melbourne, the give in the ground is going to suit Dirty Deeds who loves doing his race on rain-effected surfaces.

Really liked his effort at Flemington last start when finished midfield and had to make up too much ground after being snicked to the rear of the field from a wide barrier.

Barrier one in this race means he will camp in behind the leaders rather than being last and that itself is a massive factor to back him here.

Josh Richards takes of 2kgs to bring the allotted weight down to 59.5kgs, which gives us even more confidence that our selection will be strong to the line and be good enough to hold off the fast finishers down the outside.

Suggested Bet: Dirty Deeds win at $4.4

Caulfield race 6

#6 Ho Ho Khan

Steering away from the Melbourne form in this race and going with the Sydney form of Ho Ho Khan who ran well in the Summer Cup last start.

The Mitchell Freedman-trained galloper has only had two runs in Australia since being imported from Hong Kong and has been building towards peak fitness.

He showed his adept nature at handling a heavy track when almost pinching the Wodonga Cup in his first-up run.

With two runs under his belt and hitting this event third-up, he should be ready to show something akin to his best, which would see render him a massive winning chance in this race.

Suggested Bet: Ho Ho Khan each-way at $7 the win and $2.3 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 4, 6, 9

caulfield race 9

#2 awapuni princess

Having a little each-way spec on Awapuni Princess who is has jumped out nicely ahead of her resuming run.

The four-year-old mare trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman is already an impressive winner at Caulfield over 1100 metres in a very similar race last preparation to what she contests here.

She is going to get a charmed run from her inside barrier and is one of the clear class horses of the event given she gets allotted the handicappers weight of 61.5kgs.

The stable has opted to book Alana Kelly in order to drop that weight down to 58.5kgs and it also signals they will be pushing forward to take full advantage of the claim.

Suggested Bet: Awapuni Princess each-way at $10 the win and $3.10 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 6, 8, 10
