The Meadows Greyhound Tips & Previews, Saturday 1st January

The best bets from the BetDeluxe greyhound experts ahead of the 12-race card from The Meadows this Saturday night.

A warm night for a bumper card at The Meadows as we go through the 12-race program on New Year’s Day.

The best of the night comes up in race six.

The Meadows race 1

#8 zipping james

It was either Zipping James or Storm Roller in this race and we have decided to side with Zipping James.

He is the dog that has had the experience at The Meadows already having run second over the 525-metre circuit two starts ago.

He also brings in a slashing 29.44 last-start Sandown victory to this race after showing explosive early speed to lead from start to finish.

If he can bring that form to The Meadows there is no way they are catching him.

Not too perturbed about the wide box either, with his early pace likely to get him across to the rail heading into the first bend.

Suggested Bet: Zipping James win at $2.2

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 8 & 2

The Meadows race 3

#3 Weblec Scout

Avoiding the favourite in this race who will be suspect at the distance and siding with Weblec Scout.

The Angela Langton-trained chaser is a proven winner over this 600 metres and has been a shade unlucky at his last two starts.

He found himself in a Heat race when running eight lengths behind the very smart It’s Only Money a week ago and then went up against another smart dog Party Lights back on December 4.

What bodes well for him here is the ability of the favourite drawn in box one to jump fast and clear out, which should allow him to get the cart up on the rail.

Having become accustom to running over this distance range, the residual fitness he has should come to the fore late in the race and he can go past the favourite as they hit the home bend.

Suggested Bet: Weblec Scout each-way at $8 the win and $2.15 the place

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 3

The Meadows race 6

#1 Carry On Angel

Carry On Angel is set up beautifully to run near his best.

Two starts ago he scooted away to win in 29.93 at The Meadows over 525 metres in a Free-For-All event and then went to Geelong on Monday where he dropped down in distance.

That effort at Geelong was clearly a run to keep his fitness levels in check in a race that was unsuitable for a dog of his racing style.

Getting back into box one at a track he loves racing at and back up to his pet distance means he is worth a play in this race.

Suggested Bet: Carry On Angel win at $4.6

the meadows race 9

#2 chop scotch

Very surprised to see Chop Scotch come up as the second favourite in this race.

His form at The Meadows and at his most recent runs is superior to anything in this field at the moment.

Langfield Bale, who the market deems as his main threat, brings in solid enough provincial and country form, but no where near good enough to have him marked a $2.7 favourite.

Get the feeling the market will flip towards our selection who also boasts a very quick 29.87 personal best over the 525-metre circuit at The Meadows.

He can easily shake off Langfield Bale when the lids spring open and prove too fast for rivals.

Suggested Bet: Chop Scotch win at $2.90

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 6
