Randwick Kensington Tips & Previews, Saturday 1st January

A big 10-race card greets us for the first Sydney metro meeting of 2022 at Randwick Kensington as we bring the New Year.

A huge 10-race card at Randwick Kensington greets us for racing on the first day of 2022.

The BetDeluxe crew has its eyes on the all best bets across the program with a stayer in the third and a sprinter in the seventh looking the main plays.

Randwick Kensington Race 3

#2 Born a king

Staying away from the mid-week staying form that makes up a fair chunk of the market and siding with Born A King.

He is yet to have run past 2000 metres this preparation, but he looks well prepared to peak with this rise to 2400 metres.

Lee Magorrian should be able to slot across from barrier eight into a midfield position with the field likely to string out in the early parts.

Looks like there are at least three horses that will engage in an early speed battle that should hopefully allow Born A King to get the perfect cart into the race without having his momentum halted.

A host of gear pieces come off him and the Norton bit gets applied, which suggests he has overcome any issues that might have been hindering him from running near his best.

Suggested Bet: Born A King each-way at $5 the win and $1.8 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 7

randwick kensington race 7

#4 dragonstone

Dragonstone is racing in career best form and can easily make it two wins from three runs this campaign.

Do not mind the drop back to 1000 metres after a solid effort over 1100 metres last start when running second behind the handy Bacchanalia.

Mark Newnham has opted to use in-form apprentice Tyler Schiller apprentice to take 3kgs off the back of this galloper.

He will only have to carry 53.5kgs and should enjoy an economical run from barrier seven as Schiller looks to slide across for a spot with cover.

A repeat rating here of his first two runs here would see him a clear on-top selection.

Suggested Bet: Dragonstone win at $2.8

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 3, 4

randwick kensington race 8

#6 speed legend

He might be getting a little bit costly for punters this preparation, but Speed Legend gets his chance to atone.

The Les Bridge-trained galloper had his first ever run beyond 1400 metres last start when running a brave second at the mile behind Franceso Guardi in BM-78 grade.

She only goes up a kilo for that effort, but that will be offset by enjoying the bludge run from barrier one, which should see him do no work and have plenty of energy left for the last 100 metres of the race as opposed to last start.

We get an each-way price to bet, so we can collect a profit if he runs top three.

Suggested Bet: Speed Legend each-way at $5.5 the win and $2.10 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed First Four – 1, 2, 3, 6

Randwick Kensington race 10

#6 tanker

Tanker seems well over the odds in race that sets up nicely for him.

He is already a winner at BM-78 level this preparation over this exact distance, so it is interesting to see him come up double-figure odds.

He comes out of the Magic Millions 3yo & 4yo Restricted race at Wyong where he ran second to Wisdom of Water who is a handy horse in his own right.

Predicting Tom Sherry to be positive from the inside barrier as he presses forward and then takes the trailing run behind the speed drawn outside of him.

He may even opt to lead if the speed does not eventuate and that would make him an even bigger winning chance in this event.

Only goes up a kilo from his win at BM-78 grade thanks to claim from Sherry and we expect this horse to start a much shorter single-figure price come the jump.

Suggested Bet: Tanker each-way at $10 the win and $3.3 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 3 & 6
