A-League Match Week 4 Tips and Previews, Wednesday 8th December

The BetDeluxe football panel strides into another week of A-League fixtures and best bets as the season continues to take shape.

It’s a midweek start to a new set of A-League fixtures as the team of experts at BetDeluxe find the best bets.

We begin our selections with the Wednesday night clash between Melbourne City and Perth Glory.

melbourne city vs. perth glory

december 8th 7:45pm

Melbourne City will be looking for a cure to the ‘championship hangover’ when it faces Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

City suffered a shock 1-0 loss against Western United last weekend and finds itself in sixth spot on the league table, while Perth Glory finally kickstarted its season with a 3-0 thumping of Melbourne Victory.

Patrick Kisnorbo will have been hard at work in preparation for this game as City attempt to solve the defensive woes that have plagued them early this season.

City is yet to keep a clean sheet and a game against a Glory team who are incredibly potent in attack – with Bruno Fornaroli leading the charge – will mean the home team needs to be at its best to win.

Perth was favoured by Victory going down to 10 men last week, but regardless, they looked ominous when it was 11 versus 11.

Prediction: Melbourne City 1 Perth Glory 1

Suggested bets: Draw at $5

newcastle jets vs. wellington

december 10th 7:45pm

Still in search of its first win for the 2021/22 campaign, Newcastle welcomes Wellington to Newcastle International Sports Centre on Friday night.

Arthus Pappas looks to have his men playing in a more competitive spirit then they did last year.

The new Jets coach will be excited by the form of Valentino Yuel whose second-half brace against Sydney was enough to pinch a point.

Wellington, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Western Sydney.

The Phoenix are yet to record a clean sheet this season and will need to be on their toes defensively given the form Yuel showed last week.

This is really tough game to split with Wellington showing good form before the loss against the Wanderers.

Prediction: Newcastle 1 Wellington 0

Suggested bet: Total goals under 1.5 at $3.89

western united vs. brisbane roar

december 11th 5:05pm

Western United will attempt to keep its winning streak going when it faces Brisbane down at GMHBA in Geelong on Saturday night.

John Aloisi has guided his squad to consecutive wins and made a mark on the league with his first triumph over rivals Melbourne City as new Western United coach.

The win would have done a world of good for the confidence of his team and their ability to believe they can beat anyone on their given day.

There might also be a bit of extra spice in this one with former Brisbane Roar forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls fronting up against his old team for the first time.

Given how poorly Roar has started the season, it could very well do with someone the calibre of Wenzel-Halls to solve its current scoring woes.

The Green and Black army look to have control of this game on paper and represent good value at the head to head.

Prediction: Western United 2 Brisbane Roar 1

Suggested bet: Western United head to head at $2.35

western sydney vs. macarthur

december 11th 7:45pm

Another chapter will be written in the new-found rivalry of the A-League when league-leader Macarthur FC heads to over CommBank for its encounter with Western Sydney.

Consecutive 1-0 victories has seen the Bulls rise to the summit of the league and in the hunt to make finals after a successful berth into the league last season.

Ante Milicic has the Bulls looking very compact at the back and it was evident in the 1-0 win over Sydney that his team is not to be messed with.

Western Sydney will have something to say about that after finding its way to a 2-0 win over Wellington and putting the green light on its season after two draws in its first two fixtures.

This is going to be a tightly contested battle of the midfields.

Hard to pick an outright winner in this match and the market is suggesting this is quite the even contest.

Prediction: Western Sydney 1 Macarthur 1

Suggested Bet: Draw at $3.5

adelaide united vs. melbourne victory

december 11th 7:45pm

After starting the season with bang, Melbourne Victory needs to pick up the pieces quickly when it faces a Adelaide United desperate for a win on Saturday night at Hindmarsh Stadium.

After losing gun centre back Brendan Hamill to injury in the 3-0 loss to Perth Glory, matters were made worse during the game with midfield linchpin Rai Marchan receiving a red card.

Marchan will miss the game due to suspension and Tony Popovic will be tasked with shifting the magnets on the whiteboard to deal with the absence of key players.

Adelaide United will also be without right back Javi Lopez who was sent off late in the 0-0 draw against Brisbane.

Victory has shown enough this season to suggest it will be playing finals, whereas the question marks continued to pile up on Adelaide after that disappointing result against Brisbane.

Prediction: Adelaide United 1 Melbourne Victory 2

Suggested Bet: Melbourne Victory head to head at $3.20

central coast vs. sydney fc

december 12th 6:15pm

Central Coast Stadium is where Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC situate themselves for the final game of this A-League match week.

The Mariners have been playing with sprit, but are yet to find a winning formula this season, while Sydney FC finds itself languishing in 11th place with two draws and a loss to open its season.

The Sky Blues have looked nowhere near the team that went all the way 2020 and finished runner-up last season.

Travelling down the F3 to Central Coast with the form they are in is not exactly what Steve Corica had as an ideal plan, but they have enough talent to get the job done.

Defensively is where they need to improve after conceding two very soft goals late in their 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

Prediction: Central Coast 1 Sydney FC 3

Suggested Bet: Sydney FC head to head at $2.25
