Geelong Tips & Previews, Wednesday 1st December

We are set for the first Geelong twilight meeting of the racing calendar as get set for the best bets on the eight-race card down the highway.

It’s a trek down the highway to Geelong for its first twilight meeting of the racing season this year.

The best plays from the eight-race card are in and we kick off our day with a solid bet on a filly in the second race.

Geelong race 2

#11 swerving

Get the feeling Leon & Troy Corstens might just have unearthed a nice two-year-old filly with the Rupert Legh-owned Swerving.

She showed good ability at the jump outs when being ridden by Damien Oliver and the positive sign here is that he sticks with her for race day.

Oliver only has two rides for this day and this clearly looks the best of his chances.

Barrier two looks the ideal scenario for her to stalk the leaders, as she did in her most recent jump out, and then peel out to let down with her sprint.

The one to beat.

Suggested Bet: Swerving win at $2.6

Geelong race 3

#3 Destiny Diamond

Having an each-way nibble at Destiny Diamond who looks to fire upon resumption from a spell.

The three-year-old filly started her career as a two-year-old back in July after finishing second in a 1200-metre Casteron maiden.

She was a immediately spelled with an eye becoming a much more mature a stronger horse, which we have seen at her jump outs in preparation for this first-up run.

She won her Penshurst jump out in 47.20 over 800 metres on a soft track to show us she knows what it takes to run past horses and stay in front.

This is Joe Bowditch’s only ride for the day and he should be able to tag the back of the favourite who can take him into the race for a long way.

Suggested Bet: Destiny Diamond each-way at $6.5 the win and $2 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 3, 8, 9

geelong race 7

#6 zooming zebra

Should arguably have won her last start when storming home from a long way back at Bendigo over 1100 metres.

She was snicked back from a wide barrier, but will surely not face that issue here being drawn in barrier five.

Laura Lafferty will not have to overthink it too much here; just be positive early in the race and find a spot one off the fence with cover.

This mare is fit and has a turn of acceleration that is clearly good enough to win at BM-64 when she can settle close enough as we expect her to do so here.

We get the each-way price to back her as well.

Suggested Bet: Zooming Zebra each-way at $6 the win and $2.15 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 6 & 8

Geelong race 8

#14 hauteur

Hauteur has the makings of a three-year-old filly on the rise following her nice win at Hamilton over 1200 metres.

The Archie Alexander-trained galloper finds a very winnable race second-up with a lot of the opposition here having a lot of convictions and have already hit their ceiling from a ratings perspective.

She gets a nice set up here from barrier four as she steps up in grade to BM-64 for the first time and carries half-a-kilo less after the first-up victory with plenty of scope for improvement.

She will get the charm run creeping behind the leaders and Declan Bates should be able to pull her out when he so desires.

Suggested Bet: Hauteur win at $3.7

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 3, 12, 13, 14
