Jericho Cup Tips & Preview, Sunday 28th November

The Punter's Prince goes through the runner-by-runner guide for the epic three-mile staying test; The Jericho Cup.

They are going to take a while to finish this race, but it will be enthralling nonetheless.

The Jericho Cup runner-by-runner guide exclusively put together by The Punter’s Prince might just have very well found our way in this three-mile staying slog!

#1 Wil John

ciaron maher & dave eustace

Definitely brings the best form into the Jericho Cup after winning at Caulfield and then starting hard in the market at Flemington last start.

Getting the distance will not be an issue given his form over the jumps and third-place effort in this race last year.

Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace look to have given time to really find his feet as a staying horse and this race looks very well suited to him this year.

Gets the added initiative of the VOBIS Gold Bonus should he victorious as well.

Will be making his own luck by taking a forward position in he run.

Odds: $2.35 the win and $1.30 the place
Finishing position: First

#2 budd foxx

henry dwyer

An honest stayer for Henry Dwyer who tries his guts out all the time.

He does not have a huge amount of early speed, so will likely settle in the rear half of the field from the wide barrier.

This is the first he has ever raced over 4000 metres, which leaves a bit of a question mark on his credentials.

Odds: $11 the win and $3.2 the place.
Finishing position: First

#3 heberite

ciaron maher & dave eustace

He will bound to the front as he has done at his last two starts and attempt to break the heart of this field by setting a strong tempo.

The big question mark is going to be whether or not he can hold out the finishing burst of his stablemate.

He is brilliant winning form, but probably just lacks the class of Will John.

Odds: $3.8 the win and $1.55 the place.
Finishing position: Second

#4 border leicester

emma-lee & davie browne

Has been whacking away in the lead-up to this race.

He is too one-paced and lacks the stamina to able to feature in the finish here.

Odds: $20 the win and $5 the place.
Finishing position: Eighth

#6 will to excel

james ponsonby

Rocketed into Jericho Cup contention after winning the qualification race at Wagga over 3200 metres last month.

This is a big step up in grade, but he will carry the minimum of 65kgs and, if he can show what he did at the end of the Barmah Al, then he is a live chance in this event.

Only query is his ability to do it over 4600 metres for the first time.

His odds also seem a little well found.

Odds: $5.5 the win and $2 the place.
Finishing position: Third

#7 americain in paris

symon wilde

You can never doubt the training ability of the locals to get their horses up for grand-final day.

Local Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde saddles up Americain in Paris off a nice effort behind Resurge in lower grade at Donald.

He is making a astronomical rise in distance to the 4600-metre range from 2000 metres last start, which might just see his lungs burn up when the heat really comes on in this race.

Has shown his ability to handle longer distances as a jumps horse, but that is much slower run races than what we will see here.

Odds: $9 the win and $2.7 the place
Finishing position: Fourth

#8 beachgoer

symon wilde

Highly doubt he can win this.

He needs to make up four lengths on Heberite who continues to improve.

Not for us.

Odds: $26 the win and $5.5 the place
Finishing position: Sixth

#9 zabextra

bob and kane post

Rank outsider and will remain that when the gates open.

Odds: $21 the win and $6 the place.
Finishing position: Last

#10 allaboutattitude

trudy cottier

Needs a serious form reversal to finish in the top half let alone win.

Odds: $61 the win and $9 the place.
Finishing position: Thirteenth

#11 master poet

amy mcdonald

Lacks the ratings and winning form to be considered here.

Odds: $41 the win and $7.5 the place.
Finishing position: Seventh

#12 jumbo prince

john brooks

His form three years ago would go close, but he is getting long in the tooth now.

Prefer plenty of other horses in this race.

Odds: $101 the win and $21 the place.
Finishing position: Twelfth

#13 sivar

peter lafferty

Was thrashed by True Marvel at Moonee Valley last start.

Will all but likely finish in the second half of the field.

Odds: $41 the win and $7.5 the place.
Finishing position: Ninth

#14 compulsive

bryce stanaway

Bryce Stanaway finds himself with a runner in this field.

The effort of Compulsive behind Heberite last start was actually quite good considering he was $101 there.

Problem is, he has to make up five lengths and was perfectly set up to run as well as he did against Heberite three weeks ago.

Odds: $101 the win and $21 the place.
Finishing position: Tenth

#15 I Arize

steven pateman

No thank you.

Odds: $101 the win and $21 the place.
Finishing position: Eleventh
