We head to the outskirts of Western Victoria for Thursday racing at Warrnambool.
Have a punt on the best bets for what is a competitive eight-race card at the ‘Bool.
Warrnambool race 1
#3 Maincourt
Maincourt returns to his home track in a bid to crack his maiden tag.
The four-year-old gelding by Hampton Court found the blinkers to his liking last start when going half-a-length in what was his first ever run over 2400 metres.
Dean Holland has stuck with the horse and should able to find a nice passage through the home straight from his soft barrier.
Hoping his fitness edge for having had already had a run over this distance is enough to outstay the more talented Grinzinger Knight.
Suggested Bet: Maincourt win at $3.2
Warrnambool Race 4
#3 Heberite
A very interesting runner for the Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace team.
Tailed out to finish 14 lengths after deciding not to be a race horse at Naracoorte on September 26.
Going to put some respect onto his starting price there after going down as a $2.7 elect.
Comes back in distance, which is not to worry about given he has a good enough turn-of-foot to win this race.
Has already been specked in the market and that gives us added confidence he will run well.
Big jockey change as well with the ‘go-to-man’ man for the Maher & Eustace stable in the form of John Allen fronting up for this race.
Suggested Bet: Hebertie win $4.6
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 3, 4
Warrnambool Race 6
#6 Fabian's Spirit
Races on the quick back-up and has been specked in the market at both his two resuming runs.
He ran first-up over 1300 metres and felt the pinch of a fast tempo without race fitness.
Dropped back to the 1100 metres last start and found zip in his legs and now its straight back up to 1300 metres.
Will Price will get the run of the race and the rise back to 1300 metres looks to ideal for him.
Price can find a handy spot in the run from barrier four.
Good each-way bet.
Suggested Bet: Fabian’s Spirit each-way at $46 the win and $2.15 off.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 6, 8, 9, 10
Warrnambool race 7
#8 Abreed
Having speculative each-way play on Abreed who has given a very quite trial last start.
He is bred to get out over further but barrier two presents jockey Zac Spain with the opportunity to be closer in the run than usual.
Spain will be chock-full of confidence coming into this race after riding well at Caulfield on Wednesday, which should see him be positive and pro-active when the barriers open.
This horse was also given some very quite trials and jump outs to prepare for this race.
His form behind Smokin’ Romans and Royal Mile is quite solid has to be worth an each-way play at the big odds.
Suggested Bet: Abreed each-way at $17 the win and $5 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 2, 6, 10
