Geelong vs. GWS
September 3rd 7:50pm
Toby Greene stole all the headlines this week as we head into this semi final between Greater Western Sydney and Geelong on Friday night at Optus Stadium.
The enigmatic Giants small forward was suspended for three weeks after making contact with an umpire and the Cats will be keen to extract revenge.
Greene almost caused a serious injury to Patrick Dangerfield when he unintentionally struck the star Geelong midfielder with a flagrant elbow in the Giants 19-point win back in Round 21.
The win took the Giants current winning streak against the Cats to three in a row, but without Greene it will be a tough ask to continue that run.
Geelong shot itself in the foot against Port Adelaide in the second qualifying final with an inaccurate 5.13.43 scoresheet proving costly in the 43-point loss.
Zac Tuohy is likely to be named after missing the last three weeks with a hamstring strain.
The Cats will respond in a big way here and will end the orange wave of momentum gathered by the Giants.
Prediction: Geelong by 29 points
Suggested Bet: Geelong -15.5 at $1.90
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Geelong -15.5
Leg 2: T. Hawkins 2+ goals
Leg 3: C. Guthrrie 25+ disposals
Leg 4: M. Duncan 25+ disposals
Combined odds = $4.2
First goal scorer
T. Hawkins/Z. Sproule
Tom Hawkins will be keen to set the tone and get on the scoreboard early.
He had a massive opportunity to nail the first goal of the game last week, but missed a very gettable set shot from 40 metres directly in front.
The Geelong veteran would have also learnt a lot from the pasting he copped against Sam Taylor back in Round 21.
From a Giants perspective, Zach Sproule has proven a nifty little forward in recent weeks.
He bobbed up when he was needed most against Sydney in the elimination final and he might just be the player to find some space in this game.
Suggested Bet:
T. Hawkins first goal at $9
Z. Sproule first goal at $14
Total points scored
Over 153.5
A genuine flip of the coin, but going with the overs in this game with some cracking weather predicted for Perth.
The omission of Toby Greene will obviously have a slight effect on Greater Western Sydney’s ability to score, but the Giants have looked dangerous even without him.
Jeremy Cameron coming back in for the Cats will add to the scoreboard.
The last time these teams played it was a 149-point game on a wet and windy night in Geelong.
Expect it to go well over that total set back in Round 21.
Suggested Bet:
Total points scored over 153.5 at $1.90
