The Wizard of Odds goes through his best bets on the nine-race card from Echuca on Thursday.
The best bet comes up in the first race on the program with a three-year-old debutant set to leave his mark.
Echuca Race 1
#6 Star Midfielder
Star Midfielder is yet to race in his career, but has three jumpouts under his belt to have him prepared for this race.
He jumped out back in December last year and was then sent to the paddock to fill out into a furnished racehorse.
The three-year-old gelding seems to have comeback a stronger galloper after his two most recent jumpouts showed a nice enough level of ability to win a maiden race.
He jumped strongly and stommped away to win his most recent 800-metre jump out at Caulfield on a rain effect track.
Being by Magnus out of Medician Star, expect this horse to get better as he goes up in distance.
This race has a VOBIS Gold prize-money scheme attached to it, which, given his Victorian breeding means he will collect extra prize-money if he finds the winning post first.
Suggested Bet: Star Midfielder each-way at $7 the win and $2.5 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 6
Echuca Race 4
#12 Oryx
James Cummings has taken his time to get this three-year-old colt ready to fire at the races.
He featured in a couple of Flemington jumpouts with a 10-length victory in March being the feature of the two.
Cummings then decided to tip him out and bring him onto the racing scene as older, more refined horse.
He clocked the fastest time of the morning in his most recent jumpout on July 23.
Damien Oliver is booked to ride this horse and the fact he is heading over to Echuca for this suggests this horse might just have above average talent.
Suggested Bet: Oryx win at $3.2
Echuca Race 8
#9 Litermont
A very impressive debut by Litermont has prepared her perfectly for the rise to 1400 metres and the step up to BM-58 grade.
Anthony and Sam Freedman have wasted no time booking gun jockey Damian Lane to take the ride on this three-year-old filly.
She has plenty of scope for improvement after her win at Bairnsdale when hitting the line nicely.
Expect another two to three lengths of improvement here and this Cable Bay-bred galloper progresses through her grades.
Draws a barrier which should allow Lane to settle her midfield with cover.
Suggested Bet: Littermont win at $2.3
Echuca Race 9
#9 Salton Sea
Former Singapore trainer Cliff Brown unveils another galloper from his stable, this time in the form of Salton Sea.
He has acquired the services of Damian Lane which suggests this horse will be revved up to fire a shot upon resuming from a spell.
This five-year-old gelding is yet to have run a race in Australia with all his form being in Singapore.
He has raced in some competitive throughout Asia that give the deserved tag as favourite.
His trial was nothing to rave on about but Brown is the type of trainer to keep plenty of improvement up the sleeve for raceday.
The blinkers are applied for the first time and he is the one to be with here.
Suggested Bet: Salton Sea win at $3.2
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 5, 9, 15
