NRL Round 23, Tips & Previews

Check out the preview and best bets in NRL Round 23.

We head towards the finals as Round 23 kicks off on Thursday night.

The best best for the rest of the round are in.

Gold Coast vs. Melbourne

August 19th 7:50pm

Melbourne attempt to strengthen its firm grip on top spot and premiership favouritism when it meets the Gold Coast Titans on Thursday night.

The Storm battled out a 26-16 victory over Canberra last week, while Gold Coast were left wanting after losing 36-6 to in-form South Sydney.

Josh ‘The Foxx’ Addo-Carr is the man at the moment and his presence need to be quelled if Gold Coast is any chance of getting close in this contest.

Suggested Bets:  Melbourne -21.5 at $1.90

Canberra vs. Manly

August 20th 6:00pm

There is still uncertainty around the fitness of Tom Trbojevic as Manly head into this contest against Canberra.

The star fullback copped a knock to the face and was suspected to have a fractured cheekbone, but he has since been declared fit to play.

The Raiders almost stole victory against Melbourne last week, but had to settle for a 26-16 loss against the outright premiership favourite.

If Turbo Tom is fit, Manly win.

Suggested Bet: Manly -14.5 at $1.90

Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Manly head to head (SGM SPECIAL)
Leg 2: R. Garrick anytime tryscorer
Leg 3: Total points under 48.5
Combined odds = $4.2

Wests Tigers vs. Cronulla

August 21st 3:00pm

Cronulla must win this game against Wests Tigers if it has any hope of playing finals this year.

The Sharks fell agonisingly short against Newcastle and now enter this game facing the simple equation of putting a win on the board in any whatsoever.

The Wests will not be easy beats either having posted a 24-16 win over North Queensland in Round 22.

Suggested Bets: Wests Tigers +4.5 at $1.87

Canterbury vs. Newcastle

August 21st 5:30pm

Newcastle has destiny in its own hands when it faces wooden spooner Canterbury after holding on for a big 16-14 win over Cronulla last week.

The Knights fought like caged lions to stave off the Sharks and rocket itself into the plumb spot for a finals place.

Canterbury are likely to put the proverbial cue in the rack and this should end up being a canter for Kalyn Ponga and his troops.

Suggested Bet: Newcastle -16.5 at $1.97

Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Newcastle head to head (SGM SPECIAL)
Leg 2: Total points scored over 48.5
Leg 3: K. Ponga anytime tryscorer
Leg 4: E. Tuala anytime tryscorer
Combined odds = $4.10

Parramatta vs. North Queensland

August 21st 7:35pm

Parramatta need to arrest this form slump and do it fast when it faces North Queensland on Saturday night.

The Eels now sit at risk of losing a home final after dropping its last four games in a row.

It’s a tough task tipping North Queensland, however, with the Cowboys having lost nine in a row and putting itself well and truly out of the finals hunt.

But it’s a tale as old as time, the team with nothing to play for play with a freedom, while the team with everything to lose tense up.

Suggested Bet: North Queensland + 10.5 at $1.94

St George vs. Sydney

August 22nd 2:00pm

Sydney seek to continue its winning ways this time against St George at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Trent Robinson continued to stave off an injury ravaged season by guiding his squad to a last gasp win over Brisbane.

Adam Keighran scored a last minute penalty goal to help Roosters stand firm into the top four.

The Dragons need a win to keep their season alive, but the Roosters already know how to handle this mob after handing them a 34-10 defeat in Round 7 earlier this year.

Suggested Bet: Sydney Roosters head to head at $1.26

Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Sydney head to head (SGM SPECIAL)
Leg 2: Total points scored under 48.5
Leg 3: D. Tupou anytime tryscorer
Combined odds = $4

Brisbane vs. New Zealand

August 22nd 4:05pm

Brisbane hosts New Zealand at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon to finish up the NRL round.

The Broncos almost scored their second upset victory over Sydney last week but had to settle for a heartbreaking last minute defeat going down 21-20.

New Zealand, meanwhile, scored a rare victory by overpowering Canterbury 24-10 a big game from fullback Reece Walsh.

Tough to draw a line on these two teams give it is the first time they play each other this season.

Might just side with the Warriors who, despite being slammed by injury all year, look a little bit more trustworthy than Brisbane.

Suggested Bet: New Zealand head to head at $1.81
