Cranbourne Tips & Previews, Sunday 15th August

The Wizard of Odds ends the week with the best bets from Cranbourne.

The Wizard of Odds hits Cranbourne with the best bets as we bring to an end a big weekend of racing.

He is all over a first starter in race one, while there is some good each-way value that presents itself towards the backend of the card.

Cranbourne Race 1

#2 Footlights

Owner Ozzie Kheir is not investing in these horses if they cannot run well early in their career and three-year-old colt Footlights looks ready to pounce on debut.

He only has to travel a few paces to find his way to the barriers with Cranbourne being his home track.

He has been educated here with a few jumpouts to get him ready for this first-up assault and the stable have not wasted anytime booking senior jockey Luke Currie.

Expecting this horse to settle on the speed, which is favourable at this tight-turning track.

Only query is the fitness edge the current favourite has on him, but we get an each-way price to keep the place onside.

Suggested Bet: Footlights each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.15

Cranbourne race 3

#12 Bewitchingly

Bewitchingly struck a whole heap of bad luck on debut over 1147 at Geelong.

She raced in a two-year-old maiden event behind eventual winner Umgawa after being held up for a run and cramped for room just as she was about to make her dash for the winning post.

Had this now three-year-old filly got out at the top of the straight with full momentum, she arguably would have won the race.

But alas, Anthony and Sam Freedman find a nice maiden over 1400 metres for her to score a breakthrough victory on her way to potentially a stakes grade race.

Suggested Bet: Bewitchingly win at $3.5

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 6, 11, 12, 14

Cranbourne Race 8

#1 Moor Wanted

Moor Wanted comes into this race off a solid enough effort at Sandown Lakside when running third behind He’s The Real Deel.

He was a month between runs in that race and probably just felt the pinch of that gap between racing a little bit too much to handle as he finished third.

That form has been franked with the winner coming out and bolting in on Wednesday at Sandown.

Damian Lane has stuck by the horse and should find a nice spot in transit from barrier three.

The horse is becoming a bit of a non-winner, but today is his best chance at atoning for prior sins.

Suggested Bet: Moor Wanted win at $3.3

Cranbourne Race 9

#9 Redempt

As far wins on synthetic come, the debut win of Redempt at Pakenham was as tough as they get.

He won that race as a late season three-year-old gelding and now enters this as a four-year-old, but it was the way in which he won that will have him in this race up to his ears.

He got back off a very quick early tempo, then had to whip around the field as the anchors came out, was posted four deep with no cover and surged to the line to score a brave victory.

Draws a much better barrier than he did on debut and can he can easily settle in the first for runners should Harry Coffee decide to be that positive.

Suggested Bet: Redempt each-way at $10 the win and $3.3 the place.
