Sandown Park Greyhound Tips & Previews, Saturday 14th August

Tips and previews from the big Saturday night card at Sandown Park.

Sandown Park takes centre stage for Saturday night greyhound racing.

The best bets ahead of a mammoth 12-race program.

Sandown Park Race 1

#1 Steamer Redeemer

Steamer Redeemer is starting to become a headache for punters having only won one race in his 19 career starts, but he looks ready to find that elusive second victory.

Raced well in an unsuitable affair last start when drawing out wide on the course and never finding a comfortable spot in the run at Sandown over 515 metres.

He has two very short starting prices in his repertoire at this track and distance from two and three starts ago.

If he can run a similar race to his 29.80 runner-up finish two starts ago he would almost certainly win this race.

Suggested Bet: Steamer Redeemer win at $3.4

Sandown park race 3

#8 Bessie's Day

Heavily favouring Bessie’s Day in this race given the set up she has.

She was defeated by Nikephoros two starts ago and faces him again here plus a handful of other dogs who come out of the same race.

What peaks the interest here is that she started the shortest price of any dog out of that race and has since had a run to keep her fitness on the mark.

She is going to be super hard to hold out in this race if she can get luck from the wide box.

The three-year-old bitch is a winner from when wearing the black rug with three starts from box eight registering a win and two placings.

Can back her each-way despite there being no third diviend.

Suggested Bet: Bessie’s Day each-way at $5.5 the win and $2.5 the place

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 8/ 2, 7/ 1, 2, 7

Sandown Park Race 4

#1 Run Like Jess

Siding with the metropolitan form of Run Like Jess who has acquitted himself very well in town last start.

The three-year-old chaser brought up win number 20 in his career by taking out a G4/5 race with a slashing 34.44 at The Meadows last start.

He has brilliant credentials at the Sandown Park 595-metre circuit with four wins from eight starts.

His main danger will be the in-form Gypsy Wyong who is low-flying at the moment but has to contend with an awkward.

Run Like Jessie should be able to kick up on the rail, hold out his main threat and prove too good.

Suggested Bet: Run Like Jess win at $2.5

Sandown Park Race 7

#4 Going Alright

Going Alright usually grows another leg when racing at Sandown Park and he is a huge winning chance in this G4/5 event.

He has been ‘going alright’ in G5 races, now drops in grade to what, on paper, looks to be a much easier race than he has faced at his last two starts.

His two efforts behind Carry On Maxwell and Mepunga Freda, where he has run 29.62 and 29.83, looks to have enough depth in them to be the leading hope here.

It’s tough to see him missing a place in this and we get an each-way price to be safe.

Suggested Bet: Going Alright each-way at $5.5 the win and $1.65 the place.

Sandown Park Race 8

#8 Weblec Jet

The ideal situation presents itself for the Jeffrey Britton-trained Weblec Jet.

A gifted chaser who draws ideally in box eight given he is a dog that needs space in order to launch his brilliant mid-race burn.

Box eight is perfect for him with a lot of early pace kicking up inside of him, he can allow those dogs to catch a break as he winds up his big finish.

His last start win at The Meadows was a slick 30.03 run over 525 metres which would make him close to a monty in this race.

Suggested Bet: Weblec Jet win at $3.7

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 8 & 3
