Coleraine Tips & Previews, Thursday 5th August

The Wizard of Odds goes through the best tips and preview from the transferred Warrnambool meeting to be run at Coleraine.

The Wizard of Odds is on his toes yet again!

We go from Warrnambool and transfer our best bets  Coleraine after the the ‘Bool was washed out due to inclement weather downgrading the track.

Coleraine Race 1

#5 Smart Mozzie

Smart Mozzie has had three jumpouts to prepare for this debut assault over 1000 metres.

The Kane Harris-trained four-year-old gelding has shown nice form at his jumpouts with the most recent being an 800-metre effort at Pakenham.

He won that trial with the blinkers on and should get an economical run from the barrier with senior jockey Dean Yendall taking the ride.

These fresh horses who take a sit off the speed are usually well versed in races like this.

Think he has more to offer than the favourite Shock and Awe who comes up atrociously short given he is racing after a year long lay-off.

Suggested Bet: Smart Mozzie win at $5

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 4 & 5

Coleraine Race 4

#1 Bow Thruster

Bow Thruster ran an absolute belter of a race at Caulfield last start a $101 pop in a hotly contested three-year-old staying race.

He turns up here in his four-year-old season and should be able to break his maiden status.

The wide barrier will not be a worry in this race given his ability to race on the speed or, if jockey Teodore Nugent decides, in the lead.

He proved he can handle the soft going with the effort at Caulfield on July 24 and the tight-turning circumference of Coleraine will suit his front-running style.

Suggested Bet: Bow Thruster win at $3.4

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 4/ 1, 3, 4/ 1, 2, 3, 4

Coleraine Race 5

#5 Rudhyar

Rudhyar made his return to racing with an enormous effort first-up at Geelong over 1741 metres.

Jockey Brett Prebble settled him in the rear half of the field in a moderately run race which saw the favourite have a comfortable lead throughout.

Prebble peeled to the outside fence and launched this gelding’s sprint to topple the favourite with an impressive showing of sustained speed for BM-64 level.

He rises to BM-70 level, but that is offset by one-kilo drop in the weights and the fitness benefit he would have derived from that run will only see him improve here.

Hoping Prebble can settle a bit closer to the speed so he does not have to make up too much ground.

Suggested Bet: Rudhyar win at $2.90

Coleraine Race 8

#6 Izzy Good

Izzy Good seems to be a long price in this race.

He is a rising seven-year-old gelding and has shades of his gun stablemate Jungle Edge albeit in lesser grade.

He loves doing his racing on heavy tracks and was not disgraced at all at his most previous run when finishing sixth of 11 runners at Cranbourne behind eventual winner Ling Ling.

Interestingly, Mr Have a Chat has come out of that Cranbourne race to win quite convincingly at Pakenham on Tuesday.

Senior country jockey Dean Yendall has been booked and we can Izzy Good each-way at the odds.

Suggested Bet: Izzy Good each-way at $15 the win and $3.90 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 6
