The Wizard of Odds goes through the best tips and preview from the Pakenham synthetic meeting ahead of Tuesday thoroughbred action.

Pakenham Race 1

#7 Sprites

Sprites resumed with a less than inspiring effort on the Ballarat synthetic surface when running seventh after having a beautiful run in transit.

His jumpouts and trials leading into that run suggested a horse good enough to win a maiden race of the calibre he raced in last start but his mind seemed elsewhere.

Peter & Paul Snowden have immediately decided to apply the blinkers for the first time after that disappointing run.

Jack Hill is in good form after riding a winner at Echuca yesterday, so we will back him to continue that winning form aboard this three-year-old gelding.

Suggested Bet: Sprites each-way at $6 the win and $2.25 the place

Pakenham Race 2

#3 Pack of Wolves

Pack of Wolves has basically been thrown into a pack of wolves at his first starts after being butchered and knuckling badly at his first two career runs.

On debut he veered sharply towards his left then veered out sharply towards his right and settled nearly last over 1200 metres at Ballarat.

He was only beaten just over three lengths in what was actually a meritorious performance considering the circumstances.

You can forgive his last start when he got severely hampered in the run and was eased out of the race.

Love the recipe of blinkers on and going down in distance to fire this horse up.

Shown he can race well on synthetic and he draws a nice barrier.

Suggested Bet: Pack of Wolves each-way at $21 the win and $5.5 the place

Suggested Exotic: Quinella – 3 & 5

Pakenham Race 3

#10 Sino WItness

Siding with the horse who is fresh on the scene and that is Sino Witness.

He will not have to possess too much talent to be winning a race like this on debut given the very average opposition he faces.

His Flemington jump out was nothing special to the eye but it showed he can respond well to being ridden out.

The Hayes stable has a good strike rate at getting these debutant runners to run well on this type of surface.

Strong, in-form apprentice Josh Richards acquires the ride and should find an nice spot in the run from the soft barrier.

Suggested Bet: Sino Witness each-way at $7.5 the win and $2.2 the place.

Pakenham Race 4

#12 Pounding

Pounding is clearly the best horse in the race on paper and there is no reason to hop off him here.

Getting black odds about a horse who should start, and more than likely will, in the red.

Not too fussed about the wide barrier given Brian Higgins will let him stride towards the lead at his own leisure.

His run in town last start when rising from 1100 metres to a fast run 1400-metre race was very solid.

Trainer Peter Moody is clearly looking for an easy kill to teach this horse how to win and it should come today.

Suggested Bet: Pounding win at $2.05

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 7, 10, 12
