The Meadows Greyhounds Tips & Previews, Saturday 31st July

It's off to The Meadows for the tips and preview of Saturday night greyhound racing in Victoria.

Green light on, bunny rolls and we’re off and racing.

The best bets for Saturday night greyhound racing at The Meadows.

The meadows race 2

#1 Smokey Cape

Smokey Cape to get the job done.

He was always near the leading pack last start at The Meadows over 525 metres but just found McInerney a bit too slick.

This race looks much more favourable for him given there is only one dog that can really cross him and that is the favourite drawn in box eight.

Regardless of whether he gets crossed or holds the favourite out, he represents better value given the pair have run very similar figures.

The favourite had to contend with a rise in grade as well and looks under the odds.

Suggested Bet: Smokey Cape win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 1 & 8

The Meadows Race 4

#2 Weblec eagle

Weblec Eagle has a sparkling record at The Meadows circuit with 16 starts registering six wins.

He finished off his race last start with a withering run to score a third-placed finish behind the smart Indy Matilda and the rise in distance to 600 metres here looks ideal.

The Matthew Lanigan-trained dog should be able to get the tail of Do It who will show muster to lead.

If he is within striking distance at the midway point he will be climbing over the top of the favourite to knock him off.

Suggested Bet: Weblec Eagle win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2, 8/ 2, 8/ Field

The Meadows Race 6

#3 Empress Tears

In her 40 career races to date Empress Tears is yet to run at The Meadows.

That would have to be the only query on her claim for favouritism in this race over Star Blazer.

Shocked to see the market not installing Empress Tears as the favourite given her last start win at Geelong as well as a starting price profile over Star Blazer.

The pair went head to head back on July 1st and Empress Tears, despite being beaten by Star Blazer, started a third of the price.

Love that Robbie Britton used a drop back in distance to sharpen this dog up last start.

She gets back up to her favoured distnace now and should be winning this race with even luck.

Suggested Bet: Empress Tears win at $3.4

The Meadows race 7

#4 Weblec Jet

Weblec Jet lived up to his namesake and won like a jet last start after bolting in at Horsham over 485 metres in very slick time.

He was never headed in his seven-length victory and he races on the four-day back up into this event.

The big tick in that race was how cleanly he jumped from the boxes.

It was something he was struggling with at his last handful of starts and it is clear that Jeffrey Britton wants to keep that trait out the dog’s mind by racing him only a few days after that clean jump and run.

If he finds the front with ease here his opposition has no hope.

Suggested Bet: Weblec Jet win at $2.90

The Meadows Race 9

#1 Carry on liam

Carry On Liam is the class runner of the field and is his form line should read a bit better than what it currently does.

He has had rotten luck of late and was most recently held up for a run and checked when running fifth behind Mepunga Knight at The Meadows over 525 metres.

The box one draw should see him get a lovely covering into trail into the race behind likely leader Handsome Jack.

That should mean he can peel off his back as they head into the mid-race and then put the hammer down late to score victory.

Looks a great bet to end the night.

Suggested Bet: Carry On Liam win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1/ 3, 8/ 3, 7, 8
