Morphettville is the venue for Friday racing in Adelaide ahead of a huge weekend of thoroughbred action.
The Wizard of Odds treks over to the city of churches for the best bets.
Morphettville Race 1
#9 Hanabi
Tough race to start the day but have Hanabi on top from the favourite Royal Dress.
Hanabi is a two-year-old filly who will now race in her second preparation as she turns three on August 1st, so she has done a fair bit more growing than most of this field.
The race experience under her belt is an immense advantage in a field full of youngsters as is the soft barrier she draws which will allow her to save energy for later in the run.
Phillip Stokes has given her a solid 900-metre trial, which she won, in preparation for this race and the blinkers come off suggesting she now understands how to settle and concentrate in the run.
Suggested Bet: Hanabi each-way at $5 the win and $2.05 the place
Morphettville Race 3
#6 Zoist
Launching on Zoist as the best of the day at Morphettville after she was defeated in a ding-dong battle up the straight with Great Diviner.
The three-year-old gelding under tutelage of Tony & Calvin McEvoy gets a 1.5kgs weight swing on Great Diviner as well at the rise back to 1400 metres which will suit him much more than the 1300 metres last start.
The barrier is key here as well.
Great Diviner is somewhat of a slow beginner and drawing barrier one might see him held up, whereas Zoist will likely be three wide with a cart into the race and hitting the home straight with a head of full steam.
Suggested Bet: Zoist win at $2.6
Suggested Exotic: Exacta – 6 & 3
Moprhettville race 6
#13 Tahnee Tradition
Peter Hardacre has a knack of finding a good city runner at decent odds and Tahnee Tradition looks to fit that mould.
She was horribly held up when first-up from a break and only daylight the last 200 metres to rocket home with a sharp turn of foot into second.
Love the fact she had drawn out wider on the track here as it will allow jockey Paul Gatt to settle midfield and on the back of a tail to follow into straight with full momentum.
A lightly-raced type who will run a great race at each-way odds.
Suggested Bet: Tahnee Tradition each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.4 the place
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 13/ 1, 3, 10, 13/ 1, 3, 5, 10, 13
Moprhettville race 8
#18 Campobasso
A leader back in grade is often a solid enough recipe for success and Campobasso is that horse.
His last two starts have seen him register a win as well as a third-place effort at Morphettville Parks over 1950 metres in BM-72 grade.
He now drops down to BM-68 grade and only has to contend with a two-kilo weight rise for that last start effort.
Dylan Caboche needs to use his noggin here and bound his way to the lead in order to use thise gelding’s fitness base to gain an advantage on this very average field.
Suggested Bet: Campobasso win at $4.2
