Caulfield Tips & Previews, Saturday 24th July

The Wizard of Odds has gone through the nine-race program for Bletchingly Stakes Day at Caulfield.

We are off to The Heath for Bletchingly Stakes Day on what is forecast to be a wet and windy one.

The Wizard of Odds dips his toes into the form to find the best bets!

Caulfield Race 1

#6 Auf Weidersehen

Auf Weidersehen might just very well make his first impression on Saturday looking well placed to run a nice race at long odds.

Craig Newitt decides to stick with the horse and although this is a steep rise in class, he does get in on the minimum with 54kgs.

This horse is bred to stay with sire being Melbourne Cup place getter Lucas Cranach.

He clearly has a liking for wet track with three starts on a heavy representing him with two wins and a place.

He will stomp his hooves into soft to heavy ground on Saturday and should look the winner at some stage.

Suggested Bet: Auf Weidersehen each-way at $21 the win and $4.80 the place.

Caulfield Race 4

#1 la mexicana

Think the market has got this race wrong.

There is clearly an emphasis on the weight swing Miss Albania gets over La Mexicana but it seems to have not taken into account the wet weather.

La Mexicana absolutely thrives on wet tracks having only been defeated once in four attempts on soft or heavy rated circuits.

She may have to carry a 60-kilo impost but that will be offset by the balance of star jockey Jamie Kah.

Making this three-year-old filly the best of the day.

Suggested Bet: La Mexicana win at $3.50

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 6

Caulfield Race 8

#2 Viridine

It was an ugly watch for punters on Viridine last start after he was smashed in the betting and had no luck in the Sir John Monash over 1100 metres.

Damien Oliver drew the short straw after being trapped behind the tiring Inn Keeper then having to dart back to the inside when the race was all over.

The six-year-old gelding did a great job to get as close as he did and 100 metres after the post was at the girth of the winner.

Wide barrier might not be too much of a problem given the inside might chop up in the wet conditions.

He will be in clean air for the majority of the race and that should see him avoid the stop-start situation he faced two weeks ago.

Suggested Bet: Viridine each-way at $4.80 the win and $1.95 the place

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 3, 6, 9

Caulfield Race 9

#6 Zesty Belle

Zesty Belle returned in fine order at Caulfield when storming home to just miss out winning last start.

The three-year-old filly was resuming from a spell and after being eased out of the gates she settled towards the rear half of the field before launching her turn of foot late in the race.

Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra have opted to stick with apprentice Jacob Opperman and it means this filly only carries 52kgs around the course.

Draws a much better barrier than she did when racing first-up and if she improves the length or two we need her to from a fitness point of view, it’s hard to see her losing.

Suggested Bet: Zesty Belle win at $3.6

Suggested Exotic: Boxed First Four – 4, 6, 8, 12, 14
