Flemington Tips & Previews, Saturday 17th July

The Wizard of Odds has gone through the nine-race program at Flemington with a handful of roughies giving us some value!

Flemington takes precedence this Saturday as The Wizard of Odds finds a handful of roughies to back at nice each-way odds.

The best of the day comes up in race five on the program.

Flemington Race 1

#8 Turn It Up Tommy

Turn It Up Tommy was on the receiving end of a butchered ride last start.

He drew a wide barrier and snicked back to the rear half of the field to try and find some cover, but it went horribly wrong.

Jockey Patrick Moloney got trapped four wide with no cover and was the widest runner into the straight.

Even though he had a tough run, he was still surging late after the line to suggest a rise to 1800 metres will be perfect.

Craig Williams now takes the ride and from barrier two he should position this horse closer than where he settled last start. .

Suggested Bet: Turn It Up Tommy each-way at $12 the win and $3.3 the place

#4 The Closer

The Closer definitely has a degree of talent that would suggest she is better than BM-84 grade but here we are.

Her two runs so far this preparation may not read great on a form guide but she gets an opportunity to put her best foot forward here.

Was shuffled back to last at Caulfield over 1100 metres last start and had to race in what was deemed inferior ground.

The rise to 1400 metres is exactly what she needs because she can jump and land in front.

Hoping Matthew Cartwright can be super positive from the barrier and find the lead early in the race, so he can control the tempo with this five-year-old mare.

Suggested Bet: The Closer each-way at $41 the win and $8.5 the place.

flemington race 5

#13 lowanna magic

Lowanna Magic continues to improve as he heads deeper into his preparation.

His third-up run last start was arguably a career best performance when running fourth in the All Vic Sprint up the Flemington straight.

He comes back to BM-78 grade having to only face a two-kilo rise from his effort at Flemington and he looks perfectly placed in this race.

Barrier four should allow him to get a perfect trailing run allowing him to use his finishing burst to full effect. .

Suggested Bet: Lowanna Magic win at $4.2.

flemington Race 8

#15 Lofty Heights

Could not help but roll the eyes back after seeing Lofty Heights draw another wide gate because he is low-flying at the moment.

He was heavily punted at Sandown when rising to 2400 metres for the time this preparation and he scooted home late in the race after getting a mile back in the run.

His last 400 metres was the sign of a horse who is loving his racing as he pinned the ears to smash the line full of running.

He should be reaching peak fitness now and if Beau Mertens can pounce on the lead early then he will be in this for a long way.

Suggested Bet: Lofty Heights each-way at $14 the win and $3.80 the place.

flemington Race 9

#13 baglioni

You will not find two bigger changes on a horse than blinkers first and Damien Oliver on.

That is the situation for Baglioni when he roams around Flemington from barrier one.

The Greg Eurell-trained gelding was slightly disappointing with the winkers on last start after finishing seventh behind Seiners Express.

He meets that horse three kilos better off at the weights. .

Suggested Bet: Baglioni each-way at $15 the win and $4.20 the place.
