HEad to HEAD

July 18th 3:20pm

It’s a rivalry that spans back over 100 years when Collingwood meets Carlton for the 260th time come Sunday afternoon at the MCG.

While it has been a disappointing season for both teams, neither team will want to drop this game in order to claim bragging rights until at least next year.

Carlton was well off the boil in front of goal against Geelong last week with an inaccurate 5.14.44 costing them any hope of winning.

Collingwood, meanwhile, finished its game against Richmond with a head full of steam as it piled on a seven goal to one final term to come away with a 16-point win.

The Magpies already have the edge over Carlton this season thanks to a 21-point win in Round 2.

Jordan De Goey kicked five goals that night.

Nothing to suggest Carlton has improved since then and Collingwood look the value.

 Prediction: Collingwood by 8 points.

Suggested Bet: Collingwood head to head at $1.96

FIRST GOAL SCORER

Harry Mckay/Jamie Elliott

Both Harry McKay and Jamie Elliott pose as the big threats to score first goal.

McKay will not have Darcy Moore to contend with – despite kicking four goals back in round two – and looks the likely target.

Elliott has a knack of causing damage early and showed that not only against Adelaide a few weeks ago, but he looked very dangerous early in round two before going off injured.

The Blues are known to struggle with stopping Elliott when he gets on a roll, so expect him to be lively early in the game.

Suggested Bet:
Harry McKay first goalscorer at $6.5
Jamie Elliott first goalscorer at $9

total points scored

over 148.5

Carlton has clearly put an emphasis on defence in last three fixtures with low-scoring games being the flavour of its form.

However, inaccuracy hurt the Blues last week and if they can get their act  together in front of goals then this score could blow out past 148.5.

Both teams combined for 191 points last time they met in round two.

With clear skies and a cool day predicted, very little reason to suggest this will not go over 148.5 points.

Suggested Bet: Total points over 148.5 points at $1.88
