Ballarat Tips & Previews, Tuesday 13th July

The Wizard of Odds heads to the synthetic track at Ballarat for Tuesday's best bets.

The Wizard of Odds is off to the synthetic meeting at Ballarat for the best bets ahead of Tuesday afternoon racing.

A maiden should be able to break her winless run, while race six provides us with the best of the day.

Ballarat Race 2

#6 Lady Cumberland

Lady Cumberland has been racing well in her first preparation but is yet to put a win on the board.

She has the best chance to become a winner today with the blinkers being applied for the first time to really get her concentrating on finding the line when the whips are cracking.

This three-year-old filly from the Dean Larsson stable has now had two runs at 1200 metres which should give her a perfect platform of fitness to peak into this race.

Gun apprentice Josh Richards takes the ride and claims 2kg off her from barrier four.

Suggested Bet: Lady Cumberland win at $2.35

Ballarat race 3

#10 Sprites

Sprites resumes from a spell at 1000 metres after an average run on debut in March this year.

After settling last in a field of six, the then two-year-old colt was put under pressure in the straight and failed to respond quickly enough to make up the ground required to win.

The Peter and Paul Snowden stable have since decided to geld him and looks to have done the trick after two nice jump outs.

One of those was a win in good time on the synthetic track at Flemington which showed his adept nature to handling that type of surface.

Nice each-way bet.

Suggested Bet: Sprites each-way at $7 the win and $2.45 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed F4 – 1, 2, 6, 10

Ballarat race 6

#1 Rebellious Lord

Rebellious Lord has turned his career since making the move to synthetic tracks.

Trainer Mark O’Donnell has this seven-year-old gelding travelling sweetly with a win and two runner-up finishes at his last three starts.

All have runs have been enormous and this is arguably the best set-up race for him out of the whole lot.

He should get a lovely run just in behind the speed from barrier four and expect him to be very strong late given how well he has run when being posted three deep with no cover at his win three starts ago.

Looks the best of the day from Ballarat.

Suggested Bet: Rebellious Lord win at $4

Suggested Exotic: Quinnela 1 & 6

Ballarat RAce 7

#6 Toffee Doll

The first-up run of Toffee Doll last start was full of merit after she settled in the rear of the field in a unsuitable race.

The four-year-old mare race in BM-64 grade over 1000 metres and hit line well enough to suggest she can run a big race second up at 1200 metres.

Stepping down in grade to BM-58 level also helps her chances despite having to carry extra weight.

She has solid formlines behind the city-performed Chief Altony and King Magnus which also add claims to her credentials here.

Senior jockey Billy Egan takes the ride and he should be able to afford her an economical run from barrier six.

Suggested bet: Toffee Doll win at $4.4
