Doomben Tips & Previews, Saturday 10th July

The Wizard of Odds has gone through the card at Doomben to find the best bets up north this Saturday.

Doomben plays host to a competitive and exciting nine-race card of handicap racing this Saturday.

The Wizard of Odds has sprinkled his wisdom over the form guide to find our best bets up north.

Doomben Race 1

#6 Rayjen

Big fan of the debut win by Rayjen over 1110 at Doomben.

The two-year-old filly trained by Robert Heatchote showed good gate speed to settle outside the lead and held on with a sustained run to win by a whisker.

Three weeks in between runs will not be an issue and she rises in distance to 1350 metres which, given her breeding, should be perfect for her.

She is a So You Think-bred filly, so getting out over further than 1350 metres over time is what Heathcote will have his eye on.

Looks as though the lead is up for grabs here and fully expect jockey Robbie Fraad to take up that opportunity.

Suggested Bet: Rayjen win at $4.8

Doomben Race 2

#2 Total Recall

Total Recall has been knocking on the door of a win for a while now and this would have his best chance thus far this preparation.

He is yet to notch up another win in after his first-up triumph to begin his new campaign under Paul Messara but that will not deter us from backing him here.

The four-year-old gelding by Animal Kingdom started a well tried $4.4 elect when racing over 2200 metres for the first time in his career.

He could only manage a runner-up finish behind ThatFridayFeeling but he now meets that horse much better at the weights.

Suggested Bet: Total Recall win at $3.3

doomben race 3

#10 power boom

Power Boom has trekked up north after spending his career in Victoria and races for the first time in Queensland.

Her form down south reads quite solid with form behind Miss Albania and Annavisto who are well versed Saturday performers.

This looks a fairly simple race to start her preparation off on the right note.

She has an impeccable record first-up as well with four starts amassing three wins and a minor placing.

Her 1000-metre trial leading into this race was solid enough to suggest she will be wound up for this.

Suggested Bet: Power Boom each-way at $8 the win and $2.5 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 6 & 8

Doomben Race 4

#6 Indispensable

Since being transferred to the Gary Duncan stable from Paul Preusker, Indispensable has put together two solid runs in a row without winning.

It looks a case of third time lucky on this occasion after he produced a second-placed finish at Ipswich despite being planted wide on the speed.

He draws a much softer barrier this time around and should settle a pair back behind the leaders with cover.

Just hoping the proverbial seas part way at the top of the straight and he is able to get an unimpeded run.

We get to rely on gun Brisbane-based jockey Ben Thompson who remains on the horse after riding him last start.

Suggested bet: Indispensable win at $2.5

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 6/ 5/ 4, 8

Doomben Race 8

#4 Roman Aureus

There are a host of formlines coming into this race but none read stronger than those in behind Desert Lord which is where Roman Aureus found himself.

He raced first-up over 1200 metres and acquitted himself well to run second from barrier two after settling midfield.

He was only beaten a length that day and draws barrier two again in this race.

The race in distance should see him land closer in the run than he did just over a fortnight ago.

His fitness will only come on from that effort and expect him to improve an extra two lengths from his resuming run.

Suggested bet: Roman Aureus win at $3

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 4, 8, 9
