Caulfield Tips & Previews, Saturday 10th July

The Wizard of Odds has gone through the nine-race program at Caulfield and found some juicy best bets.

Another huge winner for the Melbourne Saturday punters with Seiners Express getting the money.

The Wizard of Odds has forged ahead to the Caulfield card and has found an abundance of best bets.

Caulfield Race 1

#2 Zapateo

Going with the fit, winning horse in this race and that is the favourite Zapateo.

Not many two-year-old sprinters can do what she did on debut over 1100 metres from a very wide barrier.

She was restrained to second last and then withered home up the middle of the Geelong straight to win by nearly a length.

The two-year-old Godolphin will surely make a stack of improvement from that run and she should be able to make it two wins from two starts in her career.

Suggested Bet: Zapateo win at $2.8

Suggested Exotic: Quinella – 2 & 6

Caulfield Race 4

#10 Sugartown

Forgiving the last start failure of Sugartown and paying attention to her starting price at Flemington over 1100 metres when she was well beaten.

The-three-year-old filly from the Danny O’Brien stable looked to be travelling sweetly in the run but when the reigns were shaken up she did not give a yelp.

Her jockey on that occasion was Damian Lane and he suggested she over-raced in the run and something clearly went amiss.

She has been given a month off to recover from that run and we are pricing her to her best here which will the hard to beat.

The big lead here is Jamie Kah now takes the ride.

Suggested Bet: Sugar Town win at $4.4

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 5, 7, 10 ,15

Caulfield Race 6

#10 Cru Classe

Cru Classe looked to have plenty up her sleeve when timing her run beautifully to win her maiden race at Donald over 1600 metres.

The Paddy Payne three-year-old filly swamped her rivals after settling in the rear half of the field and storming home to win by a narrow margin.

She was running away from the field after the post which suggests the rise to 2000 metres will be perfect for her.

The only concern is where she gets to from the wide barrier under young apprentice Lachlan Neindorf but she is a fat enough price to gamble on.

Suggested Bet: Cru Classe each-way at $13 the win and $4 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 5, 10/ 5, 7, 10/ 2, 5, 7, 10

Caulfield Race 8

#1 Viridine

Viridine is starting to become a bit of a pest for punters but he gets a golden chance to find the post in first place.

This is arguably one of the simpler sprint races he would have contested in some time given his form lines behind Group 1 winners Savatoxl and Streets of Avalon.

He looks well set up at the weights at weight-for-age level given he is not really having to impost to much a load compared to his younger rivals in Malkovich and Villami.

It is quite a compressed weight scale which should favour the Godolphin owned sprinter.

He has a nice trial in between runs at Canterbury over 900 metres to keep him up to the mark.

Suggested bet: Viridine each-way at $5.5 the win and $1.95 the place.

Caulfield Race 9

#14 Reckoning

Reckoning put in an absolute stinker at Caulfield over 1600 metres in a BM-84 rated race.

The four-year-old gelding trained by Nick Ryan started a $5 elect that day and was thrashed by nearly 14 lengths.

He has since had a six-week break to get over whatever caused those issues last start and comes into this one very long odds.

Considering how well found he was in the market at his last start, the $17 on offer looks enormous.

Brett Prebble should be able to afford a lovely run somewhere near the lead speed from barrier one.

If the gaps open up in the straight, he will be in the finish provided he has overcome any issues.

Suggested bet: Reckoning each-way at $17 the win and $5 the place.
