Ballarat Tips & Previews, Tuesday 6th July

The best tips and previews from Tuesday racing at Ballarat.

Synthetic racing is the flavour of the day at Ballarat.

The best bets for provincial racing on Tuesday are in and The Wizard of Odds has found plenty of value.

Ballarat Race 3

#11 Kaveri

Kaveri looks set to peak third-up at 1400 metres.

The two-year-old filly from the Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra stable has not had races run to suit in her first two career runs.

On debut she was snicked back from a wide barrier and did a good job to finish only two-and-a-half lengths away from the winners.

She was then bailed away on the rail and unable to really build crucial momentum at a pivotal stage of the race on a soft track.

Whatafox, who finished two lengths in front of her last, has since come out and run well in Saturday class to add some credence to the form line.

Hopping onto the dry, synthetic surface as well as positioning closer to the lead will see her go very close to winning this.

Suggested Bet: Kaveri win at $4

Ballarat Race 4

#7 Seeyalaterron

You would have been a brave man to suggest Seeyalaterron was closer to winning his maiden than not after first five career runs.

His best finish prior to last start was a third-placed effort at Cranbourne over 1400 metres, but his sparked up at Pakenham last week.

A synthetic debut seemed to be the circuit breaker as he came within a whisker of breaking his maiden status.

He clearly took a liking to racing on speed with the synthetic surface under his hoof.

Not sure the favourite has the right fitness base to run a strong 1500 metres and our selection can get the perfect track behind his tail.

Suggested Bet: Seeyalaterron win at $4.2

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 7, 8/ 7, 8/ 1, 9

Ballarat Race 5

#2 Design Rogue

Design Rouge returns to the surface where he made a name for himself.

He has had six starts at the track for two wins and two minor placings and despite not winning for five starts in a row, he’s in the best form of his career.

His last four efforts have all been in city grade and he has not disgraced himself by any stretch.

He only finished two-and-a-half lengths away from city performed galloper Mr Tipla last start and that form is more than good enough to win this.

Not too worried about the freshen-up between runs given his solid base of fitness.

Suggested Bet: Design Rogue win at $3.3

BALLARAT RACE 6

#12 Jolie's Choice

Jolie’s Choice looks the best bet in this race given her capacity to settle on the speed.

Three three-year-old from the locally based Dan O’Sullivan stable was brave in defeat last start when she worked hard to find the lead.

The times compared to other similar races on the day as well as the same class were quite fast and from a soft barrier in this race, expect her to give a big kick on the bend and prove hard to chase down.

Her danger is clearly Scarlett Heart, but she will have likely a handy break on that mare at the top of the straight given their natural settling positions.

Suggested Bet: Jolie’s Choice win at $4.8

Suggested Exotic: Extacta 12 & 1

Ballarat Race 8

#4 Amuri

It was a horror show for backers of Amuri when she resumed from a spell.

She was a big drifter with the market, suggesting she needed the run first-up and potentially taking a set against her because of the heavy rated track.

The three-year-old filly would eventually be beaten by over eight lengths and pulled up with respiratory issues.

Putting a line through that run and focusing on her impressive St Arnaud jumpout which showed that he had returned in nice order.

Happy to give her another chance back on top of the ground of the synthetic track.

Alana Kelly has taken the ride and from barrier one expect her to press forward to lead this race.

Suggested bet: Amuri win at $4.6
