Caulfield Tips and Previews, Saturday 26th June

The Wizard of Odds has gone through the nine-race card from Caulfield this Saturday.

The Wizard of Odds bounds away to ‘The Heath’ in an attempt to pick the eyes out of the nine-race program.

With the rail out 12 metres, it might pay to look towards leaders early in the piece and then potentially those horses who find the middle of the straight and wider late in the day.

There is one horse at huge odds The Wizard has his eye on.

Caulfield Race 1

#8 Viviane

The resuming run of Viviane looked pretty sharp to the naked eye.

She was first-up at Flemington over 1100 metres but bumped into very handy filly by the name of Argentia.

The pair gapped the rest of the field and ran solid enough time for two-year-olds at maiden level.

It is the perfect foundation race for an 1100-metre affair of this high pressure nature.

Damian Lane is riding confidently at the moment and he should be able to find a spot with cover despite drawing barrier nine.

Just hoping he allows this filly to stride along rather than by attempting to restrain her.

Suggested Bet: Viviane each-way at $6 the win and $1.85 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2, 8/ 2, 5, 8/ 1, 2, 5, 8

CAulfield Race 2

#7 Lulu Darling

For the small stable that is the Michael Huglin stable, he certainly has assembled a handful of talented juveniles and none more so than this filly.

The way she settled in behind under a strong hold and let down with her sprint over 1200 metres on debut showed signs of a very smart race horse.

She has the fitness base to run well and while the Pakenham synthetic form is sometimes questionable, we are at least getting a big each-way price to find out of if she can handle the step up to city grade.

Damian Lane takes the ride here and that could improve her the extra two to three lengths she needs to be right in the mix.

Suggested Bet: Lulu Darling each-way at $18 the win and $5.5 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 6/ 2, 8, 10 ,12/ 2, 8, 10 ,12

Caulfield race 4

#4 Ballet Master

Ballet Master is going so much better than what his form line presents to the eye.

His last two starts have been horrifically unlucky.

He raced in a BM-84 at Caulfield over 1400 metres on May 29 and regressed in the field as a tiring outsider fell into his lap at a critical stage of the race.

That was then followed up by being restrained to near last on a heavy Sandown track that was dominated by on-pacers all day.

He slammed the line down the outside in inferior ground and was making up many lengths.

Think the rise in distance to 1600 metres is ideal for him as he can settle closer to the speed.

Suggested Bet: Ballet Master each-way at $31 the win and $8.5 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 3, 4, 5, 7

Caulfield Race 7

#7 Pancho

The four-year-old gelding from the Chris Waller yard is starting to become a bit of a money muncher for punters.

Alas, he strikes a winnable race third-up from a spell and conditions to suit.

He tumbles down in the weights to 54 kilos after carrying a 60-kilo impost last week.

His last start effort at Flemington behind Degraves was respectable and his him well set up for this race given he races on the seven-day back-up.

Barrier two is the ideal spot for Damien Thornton to get a bit of cover from the wind and then allow Pancho to produce his turn of foot.

Suggested bet: Pancho each-way at $15 the win and $4.2 the place.

Caulfield Race 8

#13 Right You are

Hoping Right You Are can return to the form prior to last two runs before going for a spell.

Something clearly went amiss last preparation after starting a well fancied $2.20 elect and $3.3 elect in his two races and failing on both occasions.

The big note to jot down is the concussion plates coming off.

The concussion plates going on are a genuine sign the horse could be shin sore or not sound in his hoofs, but it is not the case here.

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr. made the decision to take the plates off which suggests he is over any hoof or soundness issues.

Just hoping he gets a run considering he is first emergency.

Suggested bet: Right You Are each-way at $9 the win and $3 the place.
