The second of our synthetic meetings this week this time at Pakenham.
After a disappointing day yesterday, it’s all about how we respond in an attempt to find our winners today.
Plenty of value to be found through the eight-race card.
Pakenham Race 2
#10 Selvedge
Selvedge looks to have come on a fair since his two career runs to date.
She has had a spell since her a debut run at Moe and then last-placed finish at Kilmore.
Her two jump outs upon a return to racing have shown that she has made anywhere between three to five lengths of improve.
Add the blinkers on for the first time and it should see a very competitive first-up run into her second preparation.
She has drawn a bit wide on the track but that should hopefully be quelled by Frank Stockdale’s initiative to get up on the speed.
Suggested Bet: Selvedge each-way at $6.5
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta 1, 4/ 1, 4, 10/ 1, 4, 8, 10
Pakenham Race 3
#9 Sudann
Peter Moody may have picked a handy one here in the form of Sudann.
The stable has snagged him from New Zealand after running second in a maiden on very heavy ground.
Moody has applied the customary nose roll to get this horse to settle, improve his concentration and to conserve his energy.
The beauty about racing at Pakenham is that this horse will not have to travel too far and he would be getting use to this course being stabled at the track.
Expecting Daniel Stackhouse to be very positive with this four-year-old gelding and press towards the front early in the race.
Suggested Bet: Sudann win at $2.6
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 4, 8, 9
Pakenham Race 4
#9 Blazing Lace
Blazing Lace has been as brave as ever at her last two runs.
She has raced on the speed in some fairly high pressure races and done a fantastic job to keep kicking poking her nose to nearly win with both races.
The three-year-old filly gets a great chance to find the lead without too much pressure here.
She is fit and ready to run her opposition ragged.
Apprentice Alana Kelly will also take some weight of her and the instructions will be simple; find the front, get your sectionals right and keep kicking.
Suggested bet: Blazing Lace win at $6
Pakenham Race 5
#5 Unicorny
Vetted at the gates last start after being fractious in the barriers and in hindsight she probably should not have been declared fit to run.
It all went pear-shaped for her at Mornington in BM-64 grade but she drops back to BM-58 level here with a host of great changes.
She has talent above this level and the hopefully the blinkers and tongue tie spark her in action.
Thomas Stockdale should be able to keep her out of trouble from barrier seven and expect her to finish much closer than she did last start.
Suggested bet: Unicorny each-way at $9 the win and $2.90 the place.
Pakenham Race 7
#3 Demilitarized
Demilitarized found it a bridge too far when resuming in a BM-64 at Pakenham over 1200 metres.
Think the step up 1400 metres and the drop back to BM-58 will see a marked improvement in this horse.
The last time he raced at this level he scored a victory at Benalla over 1400 metres.
There does not look to be too much speed in the race either and he should be able to land in the lead or outside the lead of what looks to be a soft tempo.
Comes up nice each-way odds.
Suggested bet: Demilitarized each-way at $9 the win and $2.90 the place
