Thursday racing at Wangaratta and Wyong represents us with great betting opportunities.
A first starter for Patrick Payne has caught the eye at the jump outs and comes up early in the Wangaratta card.
Wangaratta Race 2
#14 What a sham
What A Sham has had three 800-metre jump outs in preparation for her debut run over 1170 metres.
She showed gradual improvement at all three efforts but it was her most recent jump out which suggested a bold showing on debut is in the making.
After being ambled out of the barriers, her jockey decide to settle behind the leaders and peeled out at the top of the Avoca straight to slip this girl some reign.
She responded well to light riding and was restrained about 30 metres before the post.
Billy Egan should be able to blend into the race with some cover and prove hard to beat.
Suggested Bet: What A Sham win at $3.8
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 2 & 14
Wangaratta Race 4
#6 Rayza Warrior
Rayza Warrior is starting to become a bit of a pest for punters given he is a nine-start maiden but he comes up big odds.
Though his run up on the pace on a heavy track was admirable and proved he can go well on rain-effected ground.
Some the horses are arguably yet to reach peak fitness whereas he is fully fit and will likely get wet conditions again that will test the stamina of those less hardened horses.
Draws a soft barrier which should allow to do little work to get near the lead in the early part of the race.
Each-way bet.
Suggested Bet: Rayza Warrior each-way at $13 the win and $4 the place
Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta 4, 6, 7, 12
Wangaratta Race 9
#3 Jenkins
Jenkins might have to one of the unluckiest horses in the country at the moment.
He either draws too wide which means he has to settle too far back or he draws an inside barrier when you do not want to be drawn on the inside.
He ran well in BM-70 grade at Cranbourne last start and now drops in class back to country level.
Finally draws a nice barrier in a lower grade where he can put himself somewhere near the lead speed and let down to reel in the leaders.
Suggested bet: Jenkins win at $4.2
Wyong Race 3
#4 Dunlee
Dunlee looks ready to finally break through for that so far illustrious maiden victory.
She got too far back in a hotly run race first-up but did a nice job to smash the line late in the race to run third behind the well-fancied first and second horse.
The four-year-old mare was within a length of the winners about 100 metres after the post.
That effort should bring her on the extra two to three lengths she needs to win a race of this calibre.
Hoping Jason Collett can settle her closer in the run from barrier one then take all the shortcuts on the rails.
Suggested Bet: Dunlee win at $5
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2, 4/ 2, 4/ Field
Wyong Race 6
#5 smart success
Smart Success returns off a little freshen-up following a second-placed first-up effort at Newcastle over 1300 metres.
The four-year-old mare from the Richard Freedman stable drew barrier 12 and settled too far back to make a winning impact.
She ran well to finish third and returns to the scene of her only career victory; the Wyong 1350-metre circuit.
From barrier five, expect Joshua Parr to potentially lead or sit one pair back in this race to give this mare the best possible chance.
Suggested bet: Smart Success win at $4.4
