QLD Derby Day Racing Tips and Previews, 29th May

Wizard of Odds prepares you with the best bets and preview for QLD Derby Day from Eagle Farm.

Queensland Derby Day is here with a fantastic nine-race card from Eagle Farm.

Best best for both Group 1 races and the supporting program are in with a Godolphin taking The Wizard of Odds’ heart.

Eagle Farm Race 1

#10 Fastchanel

The old adage; ‘mares in form stay in form.’

That should hopefully ring true for Fastchanel who has put together two hard fought victories at the Sydney midweeks from Randwick Kensington.

Loved her last start effort over 1400 metres which she had to carry 61.5 kilos to victory and did so by just under a length.

She now gets the freak that is Jamie Kah to pilot her around the Eagle Farm course.

Suggested Bet: Fastchanel win at $2.4

Eagle Farm Race 5

#2 La Don De Vie

Looks to have returned a much better horse this time around after bolting in to win the Warrnambool Cup with ease.

He was asked to sit outside the last in that race and when Mark Zahra asked for an effort he exploded away with a fine turn of foot to win by nearly three lengths.

Heart of Puissance, who finished runner-up, went to Flemington last week and bolted in as an odds-on favourite to frank the form line.

That run will have our selection at his absolute peak from a fitness perspective and if he improves another two to three lengths as expected, this will be another win.

The best of the day from Eagle Farm.

Suggested Bet: La Don De Vie win at $3.5

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 1, 2, 6

Eagle Farm race 6

#8 Overpass

Overpass has put up a picket fence of wins this preparation and continues to improve with each run.

The two-year-old colt from the Bjorn Baker stable has progressed through the grades nicely since his debut at Hawkesbury in April.

His last start win at Gosford looked to be that of a horse who will appreciate the rise in distance.

Josh Parr should be able to position him either a pair or two pairs back with some cover to save his sprint for late in the race.

The long Eagle Farm straight should suit him better than the tight-turning track that is Gosford and expect him to be in the top three.

Suggested Bets: Overpass each-way at $8 the win and $2.7 the place.

Eagle Farm race 7

#1 Explosive Jack & #3 Kukeracha

Explosive Jack is becoming the ‘Derby King’ given his brilliant record this preparation.

The Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace stable have guided him to victory in the Tasmanian Derby, AJC Derby and most recently the South Australian Derby.

Draws an ideal barrier to settle close enough to what looks to be a very solid lead speed.

The other runner to be with here from a very soft draw is Kukeracha.

His effort in the lead-up event was brave and Chris Waller would have definitely left at least anywhere between two to four lengths worth of improvement for this grand final race.

Gun jockey James McDonald has been booked as well.

Suggested Bet:
Explosive Jack win $4 (SPECIAL)
Kukerahcha each-way at $13 the win and $4 the place

Eagle Farm Race 8

#13 Savatiano

This Godolphin mare is one of the most honest horses you will find in the Australian racing scene.

She just puts herself up on the pace with a high cruising speed and tries her absolute heart out every time she runs.

Her effort last start was her first defeat in three starts after being narrowly pipped out gun weight-for-age galloper Kolding.

She has been kept fresh for this race and from barrier eight, Hugh Bowman will slide forward and give this mare every chance to make it her second Group 1 victory.

Suggested Bet: Savatiano win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 13 & 1
