Friday Racing Tips and Previews, 21st May

Wizard of Odd's previews and best bets from Friday racing Cranbourne and Geelong.

The Wizard of Odds continues on his merry through Geelong and Cranbourne.

Best best from both venues have landed and he’s siding with a two-year-old filly to break her maiden status at Geelong, while there is a three-year-old that peaks the interest in race three at Cranbourne.

Geelong Race 1

#11 Edgy Era

Edgy Era ran well enough on debut to suggest she will be going to close to, if not, winning at her second career start.

She attempted to lead all the way in a 1000-metre maiden at her debut run and just felt the pinch late in the race to fade away and finish midfield.

On a drying track, with a favourable map and an improvement from a fitness point of view, she can certainly improve enough to get a winning chance here.

Expecting her to at least run a place in this race at the bare minimum.

Suggested Bet: Edgy Era each-way at $9 the win and $3 the place

Suggested Exotic: Boxed Trifecta – 4, 6, 11

Geelong Race 8

#12 Seaflare

Having a speculative each-way bet on Seaflare in this race.

She was a drifter in betting when resuming from a spell at Donald over 1350 metres but defied that market push against her with a good win.

After settling up on the pace, she proved too good in the concluding stages of the race to hold on for a narrow victory.

It was the sign of a good, progressive horse and now she gets Damien Oliver to guide her around.

If she has improved the few lengths we expect she has, then she will be right in the finish.

Suggested Bet: Seaflare each-way at $8 the win and $2.7

Cranbourne Race 3

#1 Altlinks

Altlinks was put to the slaughter last start after having to sit three-wide with no cover on debut over 1400 metres at Sale.

He actually did a good job to stick on and finish fifth, albeit beaten by nearly five lengths.

Tongue tie goes on to stop the horse from choking and to ensure he breaths properly throughout the run.

That should spark some improvement on him and trainer Ken Keys has opted to stick fat with Teodore Nugent.

Hoping Nugent forces the issue early and presses to the front from the wide barrier.

Suggested Bet: Altlinks each-way at $9 the win and $2.6 the place.

Cranbourne Race 5

#5 Amerock

Was given absolutely zero chance last start at Warrnambool over 2000 metres in BM-64 grade.

Settled a mile back and was just given too much of a task to reel in the leaders.

He ended up finishing in the rear half of the field but the run was much better than what the form guide suggests.

He will be much better suited to this race; a better barrier and can settle much closer to the speed.

Step-up in distance should prove no issue either and we can back him each-way here.

Suggested Bet: Amerock each-way at $5.5 the win and $2.15 the place.

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 5, 11/ 2, 3, 5, 11/ 2, 3, 5, 11

Cranbourne Race 8

#6 Lyrical Lad

Lyrical Lad just continues to improve the more he races.

He was a dominant winner last start at Kilmore over the 1450 metre circuit after running slick time and bolting in by nearly seven lengths.

Has since had a month off and now steps up to 1500 metres for the first time in his lightly-raced career.

Doubt the extra 50 metres will prove an issue an for him, in fact, it will probably be of benefit given the way he hit the line last start.

Gets the perfect barrier to be out of trouble and he looks one of the best best at Cranbourne.

Suggested bet: Lyrical Lad win at $2.6

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 6/ 3/ 1, 2
