The Group 1 Doomben Cup highlights the nine-race for Queensland metropolitan racing.
The Wizard of Odds is set to continuous his huge week of winners and is siding with the 2020 Cox Plate winner to make it another Group 1 success.
DOomben Race 3
#7 Dovetail Diva
Loved the effort of Dovetail Diva at the Gold Coast last start after she led the field up only to be run down late.
She set her own pace out on in front that day after jumping swiftly from a wide barrier to cross the field but it was a day you to be off the fence.
The inside of the Gold Coast track was quicksand and it may have contributed to her lacking a kick in the last 100 metres given she was first-up and probably in need of the run from a fitness point of view.
The tight turning Doomben track should suit her on-pace style and she will only have come on from that first-up run.
Expecting another elevation to her form in this race and she will be right in the finish.
Suggested Bet: Dovetail Diva each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.25 the place
Suggested Exotic: Quinella – 5 & 7
Doomben Race 5
#2 Greysful Glamour
Greysful Glamour is going to get all her way in front here.
Her jockey Joshua Parr gets the perfect speed map to lead, control, dictate the tempo and boot clear at the top of the straight.
Thought her effort in a hotly contested Hawkesbury Gold Cup was brave and this race actually looks much easier on paper.
She should be able to return to her best form given the race configuration and it would be a shock if she was not in the finish here.
Suggested Bet: Greysful Glamour win at $4.8
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 2/ 1, 2, 10/ 1, 2, 10
Doomben Race 7
#1 Sir Dragonet & #5 Zaaki
It’s a battle between champion and up-and-comer when Sir Dragonet and Zaaki do battle in the Doomben Cup
Sir Dragoney is the proven genuine weight-for-age star in this field.
The 2020 Cox Plate victor bolted in the Tancred Stakes only two starts ago and was brave when finishing fifth behind champion middle-distance stars Addeybb and Verry Elleegant.
From barrier two, he just needs Glen Boss to find the clear passage at the right time to be winning this race.
Zaaki is the winner of the Hollindale Stakes and did so in impressive style.
James McDonald has ridden him in every single Australian start thus far and this horse just keeps improving.
Has clearly acclimatised well to Australian racing but now he has to do it against a champion in the form of Sir Dragonet.
Suggested Bets:
Zaaki win at $4 (SPECIAL)
Sir Dragonet win at $5
Doomben Race 8
#14 Garibaldi
Garibaldi just got too far back from a wide barrier last start but still managed to finish second behind the smart Brett Cavanough-trained Fender.
Glen Boss has now been booked for the ride and from barrier five he should be afforded a much more economical run in transit.
With only 54kgs on his back, if this four-year-old gelding from the Tony Gollan stable can utilize his sharp turn of foot then he should be able to dart clear and win this.
He is the best of the program at Doomben and a horse to watch going deeper into the Queensland carnival.
Suggested Bet: Garibaldi win at $3.4
Doomben Race 9
#1 Tycoon Evie
It was an absolute horror show for backers of Tycoon Evie last start.
After drawing an inside gate in the lead-up event, she got shuffled back behind a tiring horse at a critical point of the race and was clearly in the worse part of the track.
A complete forgive run and we will respect the market given it sent her out as the $4.2 favourite in that race.
She draws a much better barrier today which should see her settle to the outside of runners and not be hemmed away on the rails.
Expecting to see the best of her in this race.
Suggested Bet: Tycoon Evie each-way at $8.5 the win and $2.9 the place.
Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 2/ 1, 2, 3/ 1, 2, 3, 5
