Round 10 is here!
Manly vs. Brisbane
May 14th 8:05pm
Manly face Brisbane in a bid to make it five wins from six games as it continues to get its season on track.
Manly have won four of five games since star fullback Tom Trbojevic’s return.
Only the unstoppable Panthers have gotten the better of the Sea Eagles of late, but Manly’s ‘Turbo Tom’ produced easily his most dominant match of the year so far, scoring or setting up six of his team’s seven tries and helping them snap a six-game losing run at home in the process.
The Broncos have been much improved since last season and will be competitive here, but the ‘Tom Turbo’ boosted Sea Eagles are irresistible at the moment.
Suggested Bets: Manly Sea Eagles -8.5 at $1.91
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Manly Sea Eagles head to head (SGM SPECIAL)
Leg 2: T. Trbojevic anytime try scorer
Leg 3: Total points scored under 45.5
Combined odds = $4.6
Canterbury vs. Canberra
May 15th 3:00pm
Canberra travel to Suncorp Stadium to face Canterbury as it attempts to put to rest a five-game losing run which has coach Ricky Stuart under enormous pressure.
Second-half drop off are becoming a recurring theme for the Raiders and it was a trend that continued last weekend when they gave up a 16-point half-time lead to be beaten by the Knights.
It was a similar story for the Bulldogs, who trailed just 6-0 at the break against the St George Illwarra but were outmuscled and outfoxed in the second term to slump to their eighth loss.
The Raiders clearly have the better team on paper but the omission of Jordan Rapana will make things tricky.
The green machine should be able to notch up a win here but the Bulldogs, despite being horrendous for the most of the year, can mount a challenge.
Suggested Bet: Canterbury +15.5 at $1.94
Cronulla vs. South Sydney
May 15th 5:30pm
Cronulla and South Sydney face each other on the back of horrific Round 9 losses last weekend.
Both these teams arrive in Brisbane with dented pride after being unable to score a point in humiliating losses last week – the Rabbitohs by 50-0 over a rampant Storm, while the Sharks were pounded 48-0 by premiership favourite Penrith.
The only solace South Sydney’s took out of the belting was that the loss was its first in eight weeks and they were down on key personnel.
Josh Hannay and the Sharks have had little excuse over the past month.
They are now staring at a possible sixth straight defeat if they fail to find the nous to beat the Rabbitohs.
The last win the Sharks conjured up was against the struggling North Queensland Cowboys back in Round 4 and even a return to that form is simply not good enough to beat the Souths.
Suggested Bets: South Sydney -9.5 at $1.83
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: South Sydney 13+
Leg 2: T. Milne anytime try scorer
Leg 3: Total points under 43.5
Combined odds = $7
Sydney vs. North Queensland
May 15th 7:45pm
The battered and bruised Sydney Roosters come up against the North Queensland Cowboys on Saturday night.
The Roosters, who have been battling to find 21 fit players in recent weeks, slipped to sixth on the ladder and are in danger of the top four being out of sight.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, enter the clash having won four of their past five after being buoyed by a one-point comeback win in their Queensland derby triumph over the Brisbane Broncos.
The damn wall has shown cracks in the last fortnight for the Roosters and it might well and truly bust here.
Roosters playmaker Drew Hutchison added himself to an already elongated list of Rooster injuries after suffering fractured ribs and a punctured lung.
Suggested Bets: North Queensland Cowboys +12.5 at $1.86
New Zealand vs. Parramatta
May 16th 1:50pm
The Parramatta Eels will attempt to keep up their purple patch of form when they duel with the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday afternoon.
The Eels’ impressive season continued with a physical win over an under-manned Roosters last week, while the Warriors went on a scoring rampage at Lottoland but left a gaping hole in their defence as it went down to the Sea Eagles 38-32.
Parramatta locked itself into second spot on the NRL ladder with the win but it turned out to be a costly venture.
Dylan Brown and Marata Niukore both put forth early pleas for dangerous incidents that overshadowed what was otherwise a strong win.
Parramatta’s consistency this season is what has allowed them to enter the premiership race but the eighth-placed Warriors might prove a cheeky side to get past.
The value, however, is with the Eels at the line.
Suggested Bets: Parramatta Eels -8.5 at $2
Melbourne vs. St George Illawarra
May 16th 4:05pm
Melbourne Storm enter Magic Round against St George Illawarra after a world class performance that will be spoken about for years, while the Dragons quashed a three-game slide against the last-placed Bulldogs.
Star Storm winger Josh Addo-Carr took centre stage as re-wrote the history books with his six-try haul against South Sydney in a 50-0 thrashing in round nine.
His performance took the gloss off what was a sensational team based dissection of a Rabbitohs team who had no answers for the offensive onslaught.
St George are probably looking at this game with trepidation given the rise in class it will face against this Storm side.
Tough to see how the Dragons conjure up a way to stop Craig Bellamy’s men making it seven wins in a row.
Suggested Bet: Melbourne Storm -14.5 at $1.91
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Melbourne Storm -14.5
Leg 2: J. Addo-Carr anytime try scorer
Leg 3: Total points scored under 44.5
Combined odds = $5.75
GOld Coast vs. penrith
may 16th 6:25pm
Undefeated premiership favourite Penrith travel up north to face the Gold Coast Titans who put to rest a three-game losing streak last week.
Last Saturday’s 36-28 victory over Wests Tigers gave Justin Holbrook’s men a much-needed boost heading into this tough assignment against the Panthers.
The Titans defence is where the Panthers will looks to bust this game wide open in their favour.
Having conceded 219 points this year (the most of any team inside the top eight), the Titans will need to improve defensively if they are to stand any chance against a Panthers offence which has scored the equal second amount of points of any team this year.
The Titans have the talent to trouble the Panthers but it would take a brave person to tip against a team who have won 26 of its last 27 matches with the only blemish in that period being a narrow grand final loss.
Panthers win with a bit up their sleeve but by less than the current line of 20.5.
Suggested Bet: Gold Coast Titans +20.5 at $1.90
Suggested Same Game Multi:
Leg 1: Penrith Panthers head to head (SGM SPECIAL)
Leg 2: Total points scored over 44.5
Leg 3: C. Staines anytime try scorer
Leg 4: A. Don anytime try scorer
Combined odds = $6.25
