Goodwood Handicap Day Racing Tips and Previews, Morphettville 13th May

Wizard of Odds prepares you with the best bets and preview for Goodwood Handicap Day from Morphettville.

The Goodwood Handicap highlights the nine-race card at Morphettville.

The Wizard of Odds has his sights set on a fresh, gun sprinter to take out the Group 1 dash for cash.

Morphettville Race 2

#7 Heresy

Heresy debuted in a fine style despite finishing runner-up behind what looks to be a smart filly called Forever And A Day.

She had to venture out very wide on the Geelong course after being restrained to sit midfield in the early part of the race but the leader and eventual winner had it too easy up front.

The two-year-old filly from the James Cummings stable had to sustain a long run and let down beautifully when she flattened out but her fitness or lack thereof, just told late.

From barrier three, expect her to settle much closer to the speed and she looks a fantastic each-way bet to start the day.

Suggested Bet: Heresay each-way at $5 the win and $1.95 the place

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 7

Morphettville Race 4

#4 Brooklyn Hustle

She hasn’t won a race since August 2020, but Brooklyn Hustle gets the best chance to make up for that run of outs in this 1200-metre sprint.

She has raced in Group 1 at her last four starts and run respectfully in all of them with her most recent effort being a fifth-placed finish in the Sangster a fortnight ago.

The favourite for this race is Rubisaki, but Brooklyn Hustle has a starting price advantage and weight swing in her favour.

Predicting these two horses will flip prices in the market and Brookyln Hustle, with Jamie Kah aboard, will start favourite.

Suggested Bet: Brookyln Hustle win at $3.3

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 4/ 1/ Field

Morphettville Race 6

#6 In Good health

It was a brave effort by In Good Health in the Queen of the South last start.

After having nearly two months away from racing, she was asked to sit outside the lead of a what was a solid tempo set out in front.

She plugged away well late in the race but could only manage five albeit only beaten by just under a length.

Her fitness is the likely excuse for missing the place in that race and if she improved anywhere between two to three lengths as predicted here, she will win this race.

Interestingly, trainer Peter Moody has applied the blinkers rather than the nose roll in this race and that should spark a bit more improvement as well.

Maps to lead all the way.

Suggested Bets: In Good Health win at $3.5

Morphettville Race 7

#8 Lord Vladivostock

Lord Vladivostock resumed over the mile last start after having a little two-month freshen-up.

The market sent him out a $2.70 favourite at BM-82 level and he cut the breeze outside the lead the whole way around the course only to be run down on the line.

That run will certainly see his fitness base improve and he will enjoy a cushy run from barrier two without having to do too much work.

Todd Pannell replaces the injured Jessica Eaton and he should be able to either lead or take the sit in just behind the leaders.

Suggested Bet: Lord Vladivostock each-way at $9 the win and $2.90 the place

Morphettville Race 8 - Goodwood Handicap

#2 Gytrash

The only query on Gytrash in this race is the surgery he had to remove a bone chip after his brilliant spring campaign.

His two 800-metre trials since his last run back in October 2020 suggest he has showed absolutely zero signs of slowing down or that surgery being an issue for him.

Draws the ideal gate to box seat in the ‘one-one’ and has a significant starting price advantage over Behemoth from their tussle in the Everest.

Jason Collett, who got to know him very well in Sydney, flies over to the take the ride.

This is clearly the horse he has come over for and it’s arguably one of the easiest Group 1 races he has contested in his career.

Suggested Bet: Gytrash win at $3.1

Suggested Bet: Exacta 2 & 1
