Gold Coast plays host the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes and The Wizard of Odds is backing an old marvel to run a big race, while it’s off to Caulfield for a nice each-way at double figure odds.
Good luck, punters.
Caulfield Race 3
#8 Leale
Highly doubt Leale will be settling in the rear half of the field in this race as she did when resuming at Cranbourne.
Her jockey on that occasion was young apprentice Josh Richards and he showed zero initiative to be positive out of the gates early.
She settled near last on the Cranbourne rail over the 1300-metre circuit and held her run to the line well enough to finish midfield.
Has to contend with a step-up in grade but that is met with a weight drop.
With only 54kgs on her back, Beau Mertens should force the issue early in the race and press towards the lead, if not lead.
Suggested Bet: Leale each-way at $15 the win and $4 the place.
Caulfield Race 4
#11 Promotions
Might get a promotion if we can get Promotions over the line in this sprint race over 1200 metres at BM-78 grade.
If we look back to first-up run last preparation he raced in an unsuitable race at Canterbury where he was restrained to settle in the rear half of the field.
That is rarely the place to be at the on-pace favouring Canterbury track and he was unable to reel in much of the field.
He did the majority of his racing last preparation in BM-78 grade and despite not winning she started much shorter prices than the $9 currently on offer.
Has shown good gate speed in both his jump outs which is a sign he has returned well.
Suggested Bet: Promotions each-way at $9 the win and $3 the place
Caulfield Race 6
#8 Streetcar Stranger
Trainer David Jolly looks like he might have just pinched this race before the barriers have opened.
Streetcar Stranger comes into this race with the perfect base to win a Saturday race at Caulfield after speedy win over 1000 metres at Morphettville last start.
He had to overcome some trouble throughout the straight when it looked like he was going to hold up for a run the whole way to the finish line.
But a gap appeared just before the 100-metre and stuck his nose through it and sprinted sharply to win softly.
This four-year-old gelding clearly has the sharpest turn of foot of anything in this race.
Most of his rivals would much prefer the slightly less sharper feel of an 1100-metre sprint.
Jamie Kah takes the ride and this looks like the best of the day at Caulfield.
Suggested Bet: Streetcar Stranger win at $3.2
Gold Coast Race 7
#6 Immortal Love
Immortal Love has been through an interesting preparation thus far having been poorly placed.
He has had to carry 60kgs over 1100 metres first-up and then at 1400 metres second-up.
It was the second-up run that saw him show something closet to what he put forth earlier in his career when considered a live chance in the Caulfield Guineas.
He drops back to 1200 metres and draws barrier but gets 2.5kgs off his back.
The three-year-old gelding also gets champion jockey Nash Rawiller to pilot him around.
He might just be the strong, robust hoop we need to get the best out of Immortal Love.
Suggested Bet: Immortal Love each-way at $9 the win and $3 the place.
Gold Coast Race 8
#1 Fifty Stars
Fifty Stars has not won a race since his Australia Cup win in 2020.
It has been a fair while between drinks for this star weight-for-age galloper from the Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes stable but he is more than capable of finding the line first in this race.
Settled a mile back in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes over 1400 metres and powered home late down the outside to finish within a length-and-a-half away from winner Kolding.
He was six weeks between runs that day a fortnight ago and should have come on beautifully from that run.
Rise in distance is exactly what this horse needs and we get The Wizard William Pike to to guide us around from a bit of an awkward barrier.
Suggested Bet: Fifty Stars each-way at $7.5 the win and $2.6 the plae.
