SA Derby Day Racing Tips and Previews, Morphettville 7th May

Wizard of Odds prepares you with the best bets and preview for SA Derby Day from Morphettville.

The South Australian Derby highlights the nine-race card at Morphettville.

Our very own Wizard of Odds is having a two-bet play in the Derby on a filly and NSW raider who comes up huge odds as he takes us through his best bets.

Morphettville Race 2

#10 Biscayne Bay

It was a gargantuan run by Biscayne Bay in the Anzac Day Stakes at Flemington.

After drawing the car park, Craig Williams had to snick her back and settle in the rear half of the field with cover.

She got a mile back, hooked out to the be widest runner on the turn and withered home up the middle of the track only to be pinched on the line by Three Kings who had a far more economical run.

Now, Damien Oliver takes the ride and from barrier three she will be much closer to the lead speed.

She has a nice future in store for her and this looks a nice race to make it win number two.

Suggested Bet: Biscayne Bay each-way at $4.8 and $1.95 the place.

Morphettville Race 3

#12 He's a balter

He’s A Balter is absolutely bashing down the door to get back into the winner list.

Think this is the race where he can do so after drawing barrier one.

Hoping jockey Todd Pannell can be proactive here and give this horse a dig in the ribs to get him to settle much closer the speed than he has at his last two starts.

He steps up in grade but gets in on the minimum weight and should get a soft run in transit.

Another nice each-way play to start the day in Adelaide.

Suggested Bet: He’s A Balter each-way at $5 the win and $2 the place

Morphettville Race 7 - SA Derby

#15 Personal & Solar Apex

Personal was beaten by the barrier in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks but she backs up here and steps up to her pet distance.

Unfortunately, she has drawn another horribly wide barrier but she gets the master Damien Oliver to sort that out for her.

“Olly” might look to tag onto the back of the favourite Explosive Jack who has drawn barrier 10 and might get stuck in no man’s land out wide in the run with no cover.

The other runner that peaks the interest in this race is Solar Apex.

The genius that is Chris Waller has entered this horse off a dour 1900-metre effort at Canterbury where he grinded away to finish second behind his heavily backed stablemate.

Michael Walker should roll to the front on this galloper and if he gets an easy time of it in front then he keep kicking and cause a big boilover.

Being a three-year-old by champion sire Deep Impact, the rise in distance to 2500 metres will be right up his alley on pedigree alone.

Suggested Bets:
Personal each-way at $5.5 the win and $2.15 the place
Solar Apex each-way at $21 the win and $5.5 the place

Morphettville Race 8 - Adelaide Guineas

#8 Agreeable & #12 Point Blaze

Was heavily against Agreeable in the H C Nitschke Stakes but we are with her in this race.

She is slowly building to peak fitness and gets to the mile which she seemingly looks like she is screaming for at this stage of preparation.

Did not look entirely comfortable racing up on the inside of runners but she still hit the line nicely.

The eye-catcher from that race was Point Blaze who, despite starting $151, smashed the line after a chequered passage in the straight.

She rocked home to finish fifth but 100-150 metres after the post she had her nose in the front of the winner Incredulous Dream.

The mile should prove no issues given how well she attacked the line last start.

Suggested Bet:
Agreeable each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.25 the place
Point Blaze each-way at $31 the win and $6 the place
