HEad to HEAD

May 2nd 4:40pm

The Western Derby is always a must win for both sides but more so this year with an injury besieged West Coast fighting to get back into form against arch-rival Fremantle.

A groin injury to Jeremy McGovern in the second quarter of a disastrous trip to GMHBA Stadium capped off a weekend to forget.

The Eagles would eventually succumb to a 97-point loss – the second largest losing margin of any team in 2021.

Eagles’ coach Adam Simpson said his players were not mentally in the game against a rampaging Cats so expect a big response from his troopers come Sunday afternoon.

The 10-game winning streak in the WA Derby currently by the Eagles is surely under serious threat in this game with the Dockers improving to a 4-2 record after easily accounting for the wooden spoon bound North Melbourne.

Led by Caleb Serong, Nathan Fyfe, Angus Brayshaw and David Mundy, Fremantle would go on to record a 51-point win against the Kangaroos and in the process lock itself into sixth spot heading into this round of AFL.

With McGovern all but certain to miss, Luke Shuey still on the sidelines with Shannon Hurn, Elliot Yeo, Jack Petrucelle, Liam Ryan and Josh Kennedy, the Dockers are poised to put an end to the Eagles’ dominance on this fixture.

Prediction: Fremantle by 13 points

Suggested Bets:
Fremantle head to head at $2.17

FIRST GOAL SCORER

Oscar Allen/Michael Walters

Fremantle has managed to jag the first goal of the game four times this season with the most recent player to do being small forward Lachie Schultz.

There looks to be a reliance on smalls to get the job done early in the game with Michael Walters and Travis Colyer also managing to hit the scoreboard for the first major of the day.

Sean Darcy has been the only tall to nail the first goal for the Dockers this year.

West Coast are definitely top-heavy when it comes to first goal scorers this season with Oscar Allen managing to kick two first goals of the five times the Eagles have done so this year.

Tim Kelly has been the midfielder to pop up and kick a first major this year but Oscar Allen looks the play in this one.

Suggested Bet:
Oscar Allen first goal scorer at $8.5
Michael Walters first goal scorer at $17

total points scored

over 159.5

The fine weather scheduled for Perth on Sunday is going to absolute perfect for there to a be highly skilful end-to-end game of football which should see the scoring flow.

Expecting both teams to be fired up for this game and a rev up from Adam Simpson should have the Eagles focusing on scoring goals after only managing five goals last week.

Fremantle has shown the AFL world this year glimpses of its scoring ability this year.

Much has also been made of Nathan Fyfe’s accuracy or lack thereof this week and if he can get his goal-kicking boots on then this game should go over the current point allocation.

Suggested Bet: Total points scored over 159.5 points at $1.91.
