It’s a Thursday night blockbuster when the Canberra Raiders meet the South Sydney Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium.
The head to head, first tryscorer and total points scored best bets are all in.
head to head
April 25th 4:05pm
Canberra Raiders have an excellent record against South Sydney Rabbitohs but find themselves in a tricky spot after losing four of their last five matches.
Canberra Raiders have had the better of South Sydney Rabbitohs, winning six of the last eight matches between the sides.
The Raiders have won the last two clashes in a row.
Canberra recorded a 16-10 win in the 2019 Preliminary Final and an 18-12 victory in the only meeting last season.
After skipping away to an 18-point lead inside 38 minutes, the Raiders failed to register a score, and would ultimately go down by two points in a 26-24 loss, in their bout with the Cowboys.
In contrast, the Rabbitohs surged to a sixth consecutive win after a high-scoring 40-30 victory over the Gold Coast Titans last weekend.
South Sydney now sit third on the table and their momentum will be tough to push back against in this one.
Suggested Bet: South Sydney -6.5 at $1.90
first try scorer
Alex Johnston/Jordan Rapana
Alex Johnston has scored six tries in the seven games he has played thus far this season and it no wonder he comes up the favourite in this market.
He will be the player the Rabbitohs look towards when venturing close to the try-line and he has proven pivotal on the scoresheet in Souths’ away games.
Johnston has crossed the try-line at least once in his last five away games with the Rabbitohs.
Raiders winger Jordan Rapana will be the go-to man.
He, like Johnston, has managed six tries in 2021 and he is a worthy pick to back to jag the first try in this game.
Alex Johnston first try scorer at $6.5
Jordan Rapana first try scorer at $9
total points scored
The total points scored between these two teams has gone under the quoted figure at kick off on the last four occasions.
Given the Rabbitohs managed 40 points against the Titans last week, there will surely be a focus by the Raiders to ensure their defensive unit stays sound.
The way Ricky Stuart’s squad conceded points against the Cowboys last week showed the frailties of this Raiders squad but a return home to GIO Stadium should spur them on to tackle harder and cover the running pockets in a tighter manner.
The unders looks a big price here.
Suggested Bet: Total points scored under 39.5 points at $2.26
