Australasian Oaks Day Racing Tips and Previews, Morphettville 29th April

Wizard of Odds prepares you with the best bets and preview for Australasian Oaks day from Morphettville.

A quinella of Group One’s greet us on the nine-race program at Morphettville with the running of the Australasian Oaks as well as the Sangster Stakes.

The Wizard of Odds had bestowed his punting wisdom over the card and found the best bets in from ‘the city of churches.’

Best of luck, punters!

Morphettville Race 3

#6 Savatoxl

Savatoxl gets a much kinder set-up in this race than he did when racing first-up off a spell last start.

He resumed in the R N Irwin Stakes at Group 3 level over 1100 metres at this track and attempted to match it with the Group 1 performed sprinter Kemalpasa.

Unfortunately, he was no match for that horse and faded out to finish second last.

He did start the shortest of a handful of horses who come out of that race into this race.

The big factor in his favour here is the speed map.

He seems to be the only designated leader in the race and with gun South African hoop Barend Vorster hopping aboard the saddle, he should give a good sight at each-way odds.

Suggested Bet: Savatoxl each-way at $10 the win and $3 the place

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2, 5, 6/ 2, 5 ,6, 8/ 2, 5, 6, 8

Morphettville Race 4

#2 Silent Sovereign

This four-year-old mare from the Tony & Calvin McEvoy stable has been building towards a career peak run and she gets the chance to do so here.

Her run behind Mohican Heights at Caulfield last start over 2400 metres has her ready to peak into this 2500-metre Listed Port Adelaide Cup and the services of The Wizard from the West aka William Pike.

Barrier six is perfect for her.

Pike can nestle her away in a midfield spot with some cover, put her to sleep and then launch his assault with the mare up the straight.

Suggested Bet: Silent Sovereign win at $2.90

Morphettville Race 7 - Sangster Stakes

#2 Mizzy

Anthony Cummings sends his five-year-old mare Mizzy over to South Australia in a bid to notch up her maiden Group 1 victory.

She has a been a little bit hit and miss this preparation but has contested some of the hottest races during the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

You can put a line through her last start effort over 1500 metres in the George Ryder where she copped a wet track.

She races best on top of the ground and she will get that situation here.

Regan Bayliss should be able to afford her a very easy run in transit just in behind the leaders from barrier one.

If the gaps open up at the top of the straight, it’s really hard to see her missing a place.

Suggested Bets: Mizzy each-way at $6.5 the win and $2.4 the place

Morphettville Race 8 - Australasian Oaks

#13 Steinem

What an upward spiral it has been for Steinem in her debut preparation.

The three-year-old filly trained by Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace has simply gone from strength-to-strength.

After winning a 1400-metre Pakenham maiden, she has gone on to win in impressive style at Sandown over the mile and then produced an enormous run in the Group 3 Auraria over 1800 metres last start.

She was beaten just under a length in the Auraria after being snicked back to last from the wide barrier in a field of 16 runners.

The run had to be seen to be believed.

She was asked to circumnavigate the field as the widest runner heading into the home turn and she actually levelled up to the leaders but was picked off late in the race when her fitness gave out.

From barrier one, she will settle much closer to the speed and it looks as though the further she goes the better she will get.

As such, the step-up to 2000 metres will prove no quarrels.

She is the best of the day.

Suggested Bet: Steinem win at $4.2
