The Championships at Randwick Day 1 Racing Tips and Previews, 8th April

Wizard of Odds prepares you for the card ahead of Day of The Championships at Randwick.

What an enormous card we have from Randwick as the Wizard of Odds take us through the four Group 1s ahead of Day 1 of The Championships.

The best bets are in with a Godolphin sprinter looking to get back into winning ways!

Randwick race 6 - inglis sires

#1 anamoe

Anamoe would already be a Group 1 winner had he not drawn the carpark at his last two starts in the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.

Both his runs were simply enormous, especially his last start in the Slipper at Rosehill where he settled a mile back and zoomed home late to finish second behind Stay Inside.

Step up to 1400 metres will probably suit him even better and he gets a barrier where he can settle much closer in the run.

James McDonald snatches the ride off Rachel King.

Looks one of the best of the day Randwick.

Suggested Bet: Anamoe win at $2.05

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 1 & 3

Randwick Race 7 - AJC Derby

#16 Montefilia

Montefilia takes on the boys in the AJC Derby and she looks primed to run to her absolute best.

Her two runs in this preparation thus far have been that of a horse screaming for more distance with her most recent start being over 2000 metres in the Rosehill Guineas.

She launched home in the last 400 metres to finish third behind eventual winner Mo’Unga who is well-fancied in the Doncaster Mile.

Get 2.5 kilos off the boys for being a three-year-old filly and from barrier three, Jason Collett should be able to give her an economical time of it and prove too good in the finish.

Suggested Bet: Deluxe Odds of $5 for Montefilia to win.

Randwick Race 8 - TJ Smith Stakes

#1 Bivouac

Backing Bivouac to bounce back into form here after his last start fourth in the Canterbury Stakes over 1300 metres when beaten by stablemate Savatiano.

It was a terrible set-up for him that day with only a 1000-metre run up the straight being his fitness base.

He over-raced terribly that day, was caught out deep on the track and never looked comfortable at all.

The freshen up and the soft hands of Hugh Bowman being booked should spell a big improvement from this horse.

His trial on a heavy track on March 26th has kept him ticking over and he did win at his third run last preparation when bolting in up the Flemington straight.

Suggested Bet: Bivouac win at $4.8

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1/ 2, 3/ 2, 3, 5, 11

Randwick Race 9 - Doncaster Mile

#19 Mo'Unga

Mo’unga is such a talented galloper and he proved that when winning the Rosehill Guineas over 2000 metres last start.

He arguably should have won the Randwick Guineas over 1600 metres the start prior, when he was held up for a run at a critical stage of the race and flashed to finish runner-up behind Lion’s Roar.

He might be drawn very wide here, but with a fair amount of speed engaged in this high-pressure mile, it should suit a horse of his calibre.

With only 49.5 kilos on his back, Robbie Dolan will settle in the rear half of the field and use the finishing burst possessed by this horse to try and run down his rivals.

Love the 2000m back to the mile. It’s a recipe used with great success in these fast-run miles.

Suggested Bet: Mo’Unga each-way at $7.5 the win and $2.6 the place

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 19/ 1, 18, 19, 21/ 1, 2, 18, 19, 21

Randwick Race 5 - Chairmans Quality

#11 selino

Selino looks set to break through on Australian soil for the first time with the Chris Waller-import ready to peak with the drying track at Randwick.

Loved his run last start when he whacked away to finish fifth behind the smart Willie Haggas-trained stayer Favourite Moon.

Selino is now fourth-up and gets to the 2600 metre distance he is clearly wanting.

Craig Williams takes the ride from barrier three and with 53 kilos, expect him to be in the finish.

Cannot seem him missing a place and we can back him each-way at the current price.

Suggested Bet: Selino each-way at $6 the win and $2.25 the place.
