The midweek preview and best bets from Sandown and Randwick-Kensington have arrived.

The Wiz has gone through both cards and highlighted the selections you want to be with come Wednesday afternoon on the punt.

Giddy up, punters!

sandown race 1

#7 the motley fool

She was subsequently spelled after finishing runner-up at her debut run in Geelong to a genuine Saturday metropolitan performer called Saltpeter.

Her return to racing sees her resume, here, in a weak maiden race after three jump outs: the first of which she completely bombed the start and then the remaining two she seemed to have ironed out her poor barrier manners.

She has the barrier blanket and stallion chain applied to her for the first time as a way of calming her raceday mood. It should mean she conserves her energy for the race rather than getting fizzed up and flighty in the yard and in the barriers.

Jockey Michael Walker is having a wretched time of it in the saddle of late. He’s only ridden one city winner in the last month but he gets the opportunity to atone here and should have no issues finding a good spot in the run with his mount.

Expecting this three-year-old filly to break her maiden comfortably today given the improvement she has shown throughout each jump out.

Suggested Bet: The Motley Fool win at $3.2

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 4 & 7

SANDOWN RACE 4

#4 summit reach

This new European recruit of the Chris Waller stable jumped out quite nicely a month ago at Flemington over 800 metres and it was especially eye-catching due to a horse that is of his staying pedigree.

He mustered up good speed from the inside gate to hold the lead and travelled within himself the whole way around. His trackwork rider barely asked him for an effort and he looks ready to fire on his Australian debut.

There is a signal of intent from the stable here to win this race first-up with champion jockey Damian Lane booked to ride.

Suggested Bet: Summit Reach each way at $5 the win and $1.75 the place

Suggested Exotic: Quinella 3 & 4

sandown race 5

#9 seguso

The first-up win at Moonee Valley over 1200 metres had to be seen to be believed.

After being sent to the paddock following a debut runner-up finish at Sale in May 2020, this three-year-old colt returned with a devastating sustained sprint from the rear half of the field to break his maiden status.

It was the win of a smart horse and he looks to be wanting the rise in distance which he gets in this race.

He is an impeccably bred type: His sire Redoute’s Choice and his dam a Group 1 winning mare by the name of Shamal Wind.

Having drawn barrier five in this race, he can settle much closer to the lead than he did last start and show that lovely turn of foot we saw last start.

Damian Lane hops in the saddle to team up with trainer Graeme Begg who is well-known for tutelage of juvenile horses.

Suggested Bet: Seguso win at $3.8

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1, 9/ 1, 4, 9/ 1, 2, 4, 9

SANDOWN RACE 6

#7 tahnee tradition

Tahnee Tradition won very stylishly on debut albeit in country maiden grade at Terang last month.

The market paid no respect to her that day and sent her out a $21 chance and she defied those odds to win like an odds-on shot.

She gets gun apprentice Campbell Rawiller to take three kilos off her back and she will race up on the pace which is a favourable position in running on the Lakeside track.

Trainer Peter Hardacre has a habit of placing his horses astutely and it is shown by his brilliant record in 2021.

His stable has had a total of 39 runners compete in races this year for a winning strike rate of 25% and a return on investment of 67%.

Tahnee Tradition looks like a good each way bet at the double figure odds.

Suggested Bet: Tahnee Tradition each way at $17 the win and $4.6 the place.

Suggested Exotic: F4 – 1, 7, 14/ 1, 7, 8, 14/ 1, 2, 7, 8, 14/ 1, 2, 7, 8, 12, 14

randwick-kensington race 7

#5 brookspire

She returned with a solid first-up run at this course and distance when resuming from a spell.

Chris Waller would definitely have left plenty of improvement up her sleeve from a fitness point of view and she will enjoy a lovely run from barrier two.

Harmony Rose – who Brookspire ran third to first-up this campaign – ran exceptionally well in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas on Saturday to frank the form line.

Love that James McDonald has put his hand up to take the ride and he looks like the perfect jockey for this horse. He should be able to cuddle her and get her into a spot just behind the leaders back.

If she gets clear air at the top of the straight it will just be a matter of how far.

Suggested Bet: Brookspire win at $2.2

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 5/ 6, 8, 10/ 6, 8, 9, 10, 11
