Horsham Cup Tips & Previews, Friday 5th March

Tips and Previews for the Horsham Cup, Shepparton Cup and Wentworth Park

Saturday night greyhound chasing returns to the country circuit for the Horsham Cup Final as well as the Shepparton Classic final.

We also venture over to Wentworth Park in Sydney for a competitive 10-race card.

Time to hunt down those winners and make Saturday night even better!

horsham race 7 - horsham cup final

#7 shima shine

One the most gifted chasers in the country gets a huge chance to make it 32 career wins at this 52nd start on Saturday.

He went like a learjet in his Horsham Cup heat win last Friday and broke 27 seconds for the 485 metre race by running 26.79.

With a turn of foot as sharp as the knife of a surgeon, he will scoot across from the outside gate and clean this lot up on his way to collecting a $47,000 cheque.

Keep an eye out on the clock if he gets a trouble free run as well: that track record might be up for grabs if he improves on last start.

If you’re not content with the odds-on price then take him in an exacta with the kennel mate Jax Bale who has drawn box one.

Suggested Bet: Shima Shine win at $1.4
Suggested Exotic: Exacta – 7/ 1

SHEPPARTON RACE 6 - MATCHMAKERS FINAL

#8 MEPUNGA GERTIE

Taking on the favourite here and going with Mepunga Gertie who draws ideally in box eight.

She has recorded two brilliant wins in a row with the most recent being a very sharp 25.16 over the Shepparton 485 metre start.

The favourite, Oriental Amber is the clear danger but he has drawn the squeeze box in the blue rug and will have to navigate some traffic early in the race.

He was a smart winner and ran a slightly quicker time than Mepunga Gertie but was able to do so thanks to having a trouble free run.

Mepunga Gertie will likely be out of trouble and she is already a winner from box eight on two occasions.

We can back her to win but we will keep the place on-side as well.

Suggested Bet: Mepunga Gerite each way at $5 to win and $1.55 to place
Suggested Exotic: 4, 8/ 2, 4, 8/ 2, 4, 6, 8

SHEPPARTON RACE 8 - SHEPPARTON CLASSIC

#4 PAPI GO FAST

Papi Go Fast did indeed go fast last start by running a blistering 25.04 over 450 meters at this track last start and in doing so notched up a personal best for this distance.

He has clearly taken a liking to racing at Shepparton and even though he has drawn box four here, he possesses quick acceleration as soon as the lids open up to defy any dogs that may attempt to squeeze him out of a run.

Now that he has had a good look around the track and comes into his grand final race, we expect him to top the 25.04 he recorded last week and potentially crack into that golden 23-second range.

Suggested Bet: Papi Go Fast win at $4
Suggested Exotic: Quinella 4 & 5

WENTWORTH PARK RACE 9

#1 REDSHIFT SEVEN

Have to side with Redshift Seven who will jump from box one which is ideal for a dog that possesses his early speed.

He was part of a blanket four-dog finish at the Wentworth Park 520 metre circuit last start after drawing box seven and having to scout wide for the majority of the trip.

Even though he did not have the easiest of runs he still kept charging to the line late in the race and with a little bit more luck from the inside draw tonight he will get back into winning ways.

Suggested Bet: Redshift Seven win at $1.95
Suggested Exotic: Exacta – 1 & 2

wentworth park race 9

#6 FARMOR BEACH

Gun Queensland chaser Farmor Beach travels down to Sydney for his crack at the Wentworth Park 520 metre circuit on his way to the Golden Egg.

He was chopped out of a run when jumping from box seven at Albion Park last start and resented being clammed up in between runners.

Forget he ever went around that day and focus on his form which saw him triumphant in the Ipswich Cup and runner-up in the Derby Final back in December 2020.

He comes into the race of a two-month freshen up and looks set to thrive with his record from box six reading one start and one win.

Suggested bet: Farmor Beach win at $2.5
Suggested exotic: Trifecta 6/ 3/ Field

WENTWORTH PARK RACE 8

#2 kid psycho

With two wins in a row, his most recent being at the Wentwork Park 520m circuit, Kid Psycho looks set to add to his winning streak on Saturday.

He has run the fastest time of this field in recent races by a fair way with a slick 30.25 victory.

Being the only dog who possesses genuinely consistent early pace, he’ll bounce to the front here and leave them all chasing his tail.

Watch the clock if he gets a clean run at it. He looks like he is a genuine improver and could go sub-30 seconds if he continues to progress .

Suggested Bet: Kid Psycho win at $1.90

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2/ 6, 7, 8/ 6, 7, 8
