Thursday Night Greyhound Tips and Previews, Thursday 4th March

Our experts break down all the best races from Sandown Park

The racing and chasing continues when we head over to Sandown Park for its regular Thursday night meeting.

Let’s ping those lids and chase home some winners!

Sandown Park Race 4

#4 even keats

This two-year-old dog trained by John Boreland has been in solid form of late and was drawn in the squeeze box at his last start, finishing fifth at Horsham over 485 metres.

He might be drawn in a middle box again but the dogs inside of him should be able to kick up, giving him enough room to wind up his sprint and hopefully be strong for them in the concluding stages.

The last time he raced over this track and distance was on February 14 where he ran a sharp 29.58 to win by a space.

If he is afforded a similar passage through the race, like he was that night, he should be able to win this.

Suggested Bet: Even Keats win at $3.4

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta 1, 4/ 1, 3, 4/ 1, 3, 4, 8

sandown park race 3

#7 destruction

Looks a match race in two between Destruction and Envy To Burn.

We are going to side with Destruction who brings Melbourne metropolitan form to this race following a 29.92 win at The Meadows over 525 metres last Wednesday.

He pinged the lids that race and should be able to do the same here with Envy To Burn giving him a nice cart across to the rails.

Envy To Burn is clearly the main danger and is likely to lead Destruction early on, Destruction has a distinct fitness advantage over the six rug having already run and won over these distances.

If Destruction can be within striking distance of Envy To Burn in the last 50 metres of this race, then he should be able to launch over the top late and prove the superior dog in this contest.

Suggested Bet: Destruction win at $2.5

Suggested Exotic: Exacta 6/ 7

Sandown Race 4

#7 zipping sultan

The Ned McDonald-trained Zipping Sultan is simply bombproof at this circuit and distance.

Let’s go through some of his numbers coming into this race and we’ll show you why he should be much shorter than he currently is.

He has had three starts from box seven in his career and won all three, he has an unblemished four wins from four starts at Sandown 515 metre races, and his slashing 29.54 win last start was that of a smart greyhound.

No doubt Tiggerlong Tonk is a huge chance to win this race but it’s interesting that trainer Corey Grenfell has opted for this weaker race after running in Group 1 behind Tommy Shellby last start.

He has not raced at Sandown Park for a few starts now and might need a sighter to get his eye in around the track albeit having been here 24 times for 10 wins in his 69 career runs.

At the price, though, we will be in the corner of Zipping Sultan.

Suggested Bet: Zipping Sultan win at $3.10

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 7/ 3/ 5

Sandown Race 6

#7 silken

Silken broke through for his sixth career victory in 19 starts after a dominant eight-length win at the Sandown Park 595 metre circuit.

Doing so in 34.05 in what was only his second ever run over the distance.

He looks to be the freshest in this race, that may be the distinct advantage he holds in this event.

His last start win was also in quicker time than the current equal-favourite Rostered Off who is obviously the threat, alongside the class runner of the field Tyler Durden.

If Silken crosses those two dogs, as we predict he will, then keep your eye on the clock and go count your winnings.

Suggested Bet: Silken win at $4.2

Suggested Exotics: Quinella 2 & 7

SANDOWN PARK RACE 9

#8 BLACK GEMSTONE

Trainer Robert Le Sueur opted to give Black Gemstone a little 25-day freshen up in preparation for her second time at Sandown Park.

Everything went wrong in her run here on February 7 when she drew box five, was slow to begin and then as she mustered up speed she got checked out of the race.

She started $1.80 favourite in that small field and today she gets a more favourable set up from a wide box.

Her record in the pink rug reads one start for one win and now that she is drawn to be in clear air at the start of this race she can wind herself up and stay to the outside of runners.

With a clear passage through the race she should be able to utilize her mid-race burn and reel in the leaders.

Suggested Bet: Black Gemstone win at $4.4
