Cranbourne Cup Greyhound Tips and Previews, Saturday 6th February

Our experts break down all the best races from across the nation

A cracking night of greyhound racing ensues with the running of the Cranbourne Cup where Amarillo Highway and Equalizer are battling for favouritism.

We’ll also venture to The Meadows, Ipswich and Wentwork Park to find the rest of our best bets and some juicy exotics for the dishlickers this weekend.

Time to start chasing down those winners!

Cranbourne Race 8 - Cranbourne Cup (520m)

#3 equalizer

Equalizer had absolutely no luck when starting a $1.40 favourite in his Cranbourne Cup heat race.

He’ll be flying home late if he gets a clear passage and if he does the rest of this field will not be able to hold him out.

The obvious danger in the race is the second-elect in the market – Amarillo Highway.

However, he will need to cross from box five to have any hope and that is unlikely to occur given there is pace drawn inside of him as well as the favourite Equalizer.

Very confident Equalizer gets the job done here with even luck.

Suggested Bet: Equalizer win at $3.2

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 3/ 1, 2, 5, 6/ 1, 2, 5, 6, 7

The Meadows Race 5 - Sky Racing Final (525m)

#7 aston zephyr or #4 drumroll please

There doesn’t seem to be too much early speed in this and should set up nicely for a two-pronged play at this race.

We’ll start with Aston Zephyr who will enjoy being drawn out wide in box seven as she likes to be outside of runners early in her races. She’s got a dazzling turn of acceleration once she hits her stride and seems good value at $7.

The other dog to play is Drumroll Please.

The dogs either side of him have quicker speed out of the boxes and given he, like Aston Zephyr, enjoys hunting out wider on the track, he should get some space to find that run out wide.

Suggested Bet: Even stake win on Aston Zephyr at $7 and Drumroll Please at $4.4

Suggested Exotic: First Four –  4, 7/ 4, 7/ 1, 4, 5, 7/ 1, 3, 4, 5, 7

The Meadows Race 8 - KCR Pet Transport (525m)

#1 mepunga felix

Mepunga Felix is the best bet of the night from The Meadows.

He’s got a brilliant record from box one with his last three starts from the cherry box resulting in very easy wins.

Trainer Jeffrey Britton has this dog humming at the moment as well.

He was drawn wide at this last start in a tougher race than this and nothing went right for him but he kept fighting to the line.

Last time he raced in mixed 3/4 grade he was in box six and had zero luck as well.

Perfect set-up for him here.

Suggested Bet: Mepunga Felix win at $2.2

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 1/ 2, 4/ 2, 3, 4

Ipswich Race 8 - Vince Curry Memorial (520m)

#7 feel the beat

Feel The Beat was fantastic when making it two wins from two career stars over this course and distance last start.

Not sure why there is such a big price differential between him and the favourite Rumble Ranger.

Both ran near identical time in the lead up to this and there is a case to make that Feel The Beat might end up crossing and finding the lead from box seven with superior early speed.

Suggested Bet: Feel The Beat win at $5.

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 4, 7/ 1, 4, 7/ 1, 4, 5, 7

wentworth park race 5 (520m)

#2 ice cream story

Ice Cream Story got the cash for us last week and he can do it again on Saturday night.

He ran a personal best time of 29.65 in a lead all the way win last Saturday night and it’s expected he’ll do very similar here.

His main dangers are drawn either side of him but do have convictions against them.

Aston Lee, drawn in box one, has had 41 days off since his last run and like Ritza Coen the pair don’t possess the early pace that Ice Cream Story can show.

Sticking with the David Smith-trained Ice Cream Story to make it two wins in a row.

Suggested Bet: Ice Cream Story win at $2.5

Suggested Exotic: Trifecta – 2/ 3, 8/ 1, 3, 8
